Listening to the match on Radio Bristol last night highlighted the vast gulf between us and the clubs at the top of the food chain. Twentyman was talking about the windfall that could be (and now is) coming our way with next round against West Ham being televised. The princely sum of 250,000 pounds was mentioned and how it would be a tremendous boost to our club finances but when you consider how many players are getting that amount in a week up in the Premiership stratosphere it just makes me wonder if it is all worthwhile? When Yeovil recently play Man Utd it was commented that Di Maria earns more in a week than the entire Glover squad do in the same period. Just how much greedier do these supposed star players want to take the "I'm worth more than that" stakes and how much more money are those clubs prepared to waste on overseas stars who immediately upon arriving on our shores complain that they don't fit the system or some other lame excuse which will send them to another club where they will even more money or even better send them back to Italy (again). The previous paragraph seems to sum up the entire aura surrounding English football, if not the entire country, and it's time to stop the plundering of our national sport and heritage and return the ne'er-do-wells to the place of origin and return football and life itself to normalcy. Weekly rant over and we move onwards and upwards so well done all of you cold weather people who attended last night's match.
£250k is a lot of money to everyone, even if it is your weekly salary, although I guess that people still take it for granted..... We're going to need lots of money going forward if we are to really give it a go to get into the Premiership but TV rights money from Sky in the Championship will help a little. Its also depressingly inevitable that at some point we will probably see some of our brightest stars such as Joe Bryan disappear for bigger and better opportunities
Wages are out of control, it would be a little easier to swallow as a fan if some these exorbitant wages were being spent on the worlds top players, but how many of the recent Fifa World 11 were either English or play in the Premier League? Very fu**ing few is how many! It is not just English football, look to Spain, how much are Ronaldo and Bale on combined per week? I reckon even Man City would baulk at those wages!
