wouldn't be surprised, he doesn't hang around does he i still maintain hughton is the right man for the job but he may be more expensive to get out of his contract than malky at cardiff
I'm sure any club has a list of manager replacements at all times just in case the current one leaves. Would be good to sort this situation out quickly before pre season and allow plenty of time to bring in players
Something tells me the board have been planning for a little longer than we've heard- may even have had as much as a week already... I'm sure they'll act fast as you say- it's in the best interests of everyone.
the advantage of mackay is that he does know the championship particularly well and players like don cowie and peter whittingham would be possible transfer targets he could work on immediately. he's used to working with young and up and coming players, so its not a bad shout if we do go for him. not a bad shout at all
If we want to continue our current vein of 'young and hungry' players than Malky (If not Culverhouse, or both?!? (Although you've made it clear you think he is gone too)) are our best options. If we want a better chance of staying up, then it is probably Hughton. All this talk to Holloway/Clark stupid though, wouldn't want either.
not sure about mackay tactically though. i've not seen much of cardiff last season. did anybody else? he seemed pretty clued up at watford but again, didn't see that much of them. would need a very good number two
The more I think about it the more I would quite like Mackay. He clearly still has affection toward the club, he is a realistic target, he has gained good experience, has done a good job wherever he has been and knows many players who could be realistic targets.
and there is always the worry that when you appoint a former favourite, that if it turns sour, and more often than not it does, it will be harder to take. another reason why i'd prefer hughton or maybe even robinson from mk dons
We need to get 1) Hughton, or 2) Malky, asap...Swansea are also in the market, as are West Brom, and we need to move fast, before they get there first! Hughton: good manager record, my 1st choice Malky: old player, but not sure that will help, considering there isn't a single player apart from Drury who was there in his era. --- Solution: cash in on Lambert and Holt, sign Hughton, and get Naughton, Rhodes, Snodgrass and 3 players that CH recommends. Reject all other offers for the rest of our players, bar the ones people expect (e.g Chris Martin). Keep hold of Culverhouse, as this will cripple Lambert next season at Villa. Appoint Howson as Captain. Get Fox to sign a new deal. Fixed! Chins up lads: we still have a fantastic team, let's not throw ourselves off the cliff like lemmings just yet!
swansea and west brom are sorted graeme jones and ralf rangnick respectively so no worries there. fully expect naughton to go to villa now, and same probably with snodgrass and david fox
Can't see you getting Rhodes, they'll want stupid money for him and unproven at Prem level. Nicking Ince from Blackpool a better idea
I expect a lot of managers will be somewhat wary of working for a character like McNally, especially after the PR disasters of the last few weeks.
If they believed Houghton to be the best fit for the club I hope they use the 2.5 million, touted about from the transfer budget to acquire his services. A good manager is surely as if not more desirable as players
