I am a big admirer of his for his attitude and effort which is unrivalled amongst the current squad. It is of great credit to him that despite his limitations that he has progressed to playing in the Premiership. However, taking up on a point made by rangercol in his match report, in my view his role should be restricted to impact sub. That is when we seem to see the best of him.

    What do others think?

I disagree and think most people are expecting too much from him, thus overlooking what he actually does. I think he was more effective than SWP on Sunday, regardless of not doing anything particularly outstanding. But his effort and positioning were good, keeping the shape and pitching in with holding off the attackers.

Hijs motivation for the other players is also noteworthy. I would include him in the lineup for the next game. Mackie is one of those players who will eventually produce if given the time, like Cissé.

Not hard to be more effective than SWP, I often feel I am, even though I'm not on the pitch. I love Jamie think he is top draw and a lot of players could learn from his attitude but I would still sacrifice him for an extra player in midfield. Super sub for me.

My thoughts exactly. If it was a choice between Mackie and SWP, I would pick Mackie every time. I would be amazed if there is anyone out there that would pick SWP ahead of him.

I have many reliable sources on the inside and I know for a fact mackie's favoured(and best in my opinion) roll is a good slab of West Country Cheddar and pickle. Probably due to the time he spent plying his trade at Plymouth.....

Still think he could do a job for us in a 4-2-3-1 formation if MH ever gets his finger out. Would run the line all day as a lone frontman and would harass and tackle. Has the physical strength to hold off defenders and possibly enough of a touch to bring others into play

Less work rate but more goals in Cisse.

Thought he did well on Sunday...really cared, more than can be said.....

I would guarantee him play every match. I would start with him away and finish with him at home

Mackie doesn't ( unfortunately ) posses the technical ability to start in a forward role at this level. He is great to bring on later in the game against tiring legs in a super-sub capacity. But for me his ideal position would be as a converted right back. He has the tenacity and guile for this role and it should have been spotted sooner. IMHO.

I don't think he touched the ball on sunday. Should be giving 15 mins max. Not technical enough. Movement isn't good enough for top level.
