The move means that the 26 year-old has now committed his future to the Club until the summer of 2015. Mackie, who moved to Rangers from Plymouth Argyle back in May 2010, has been a big hit with R's fans since joining the Club. The Scotland international scored nine goals in his first season with QPR before a double leg break ruled the attacker out of the remainder of our npower Championship-winning campaign of 2010/11. But Mackie would make a complete recovery and, since making his first appearance of the season back in October, he has been a near-permanent fixture in our starting line-up - scoring seven goals in Rangers' first season back in the Premier League. Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, Mackie said: "To be given the opportunity to extend my contract is fantastic for me. "It's really exciting times for the Club. Now we've stayed up, I think next season could be a really big one for QPR. "To be a part of the long-term future of the Club is an aim of mine and I'm really happy. "Hopefully the Manager can add even more quality to the squad in the summer to supplement what we've already got. "With the new training ground too and the passion of the owners for the Club, it's an amazing time for the Football Club." He added: "From day one, the fans have brilliant with me - especially when I broke my leg. They carried on supporting me all the way through that. "It meant a lot to me. Hopefully my performances since have gone a little way to paying them back for the support that they showed me." http://www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~2773211,00.html?
Good point When I talk to people (non QPR), Jamie is always the one they point out after and during this season. Give MH more time with him and with Jamie's attitude the sky's the limit.
He's the indentikit MH type player, really unsettles defenders with his bustling style. Excellent news...
Yep,coming into his prime. At the end of the day it's all down to attitude, and his above all others is the sort we should be looking for in future acquisitions!
On the other hand letting a contract wind down to the last year means players will try harder but thats not a problem with Mackie.
Just shows we're turning into a "normal" club again. This is the type of behaviour we've only read about at other clubs, of course you should come straight out and reward the ones that deserves it and at the same time look after your assets. Can any of you see this happen under the goons?! Brilliant man management, and if it's one player you can be sure won't rest on his laurels it's Jamie.
Brilliant news! Let's hope that more good news will follow and this isn't a sweetener because there is some bad news on the way.
Agreed. I like Argyll. Doesn't seem soooo long ago since they beat us to win the third division championship and we had to go up to Sheffield to win
This is a sensible move regardless of what the future holds. Having scored goals and looked convincing at PL level Mackie now has real market value. Perhaps not for the top 6 clubs but certainly for anyone coming up for example. Extending his contract gives the club plenty of scope to leverage that value anytime in the next couple of years should they choose to. Not saying he's on his way BTW simply setting out the logical reasons for 'why now'.
