Undergoing back surgery for a ‘bulging disc’ While I wouldn’t wish this on anyone (and back surgery is notoriously hit and miss) I can’t say I am disappointed that he isn’t available for selection. Explains an Ollie comment that he played Smyth because others were ‘missing’. Is Washington injured too?
http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/qprs-mackie-faces-three-months So he is having back surgery, and contract finishes in summer. So lets bury the hatchet....and say thanks to Mackie...for the memories (mainly his first few months here and vs Liverppol for me)...and move on
I have a feeling that Ollie, should he be in charge next season will sign Mackie again on a year's deal on reduced salary. I think that where we finish in the league will also be a decider for the manager For all his faults and failings, Mackie at least does play for the shirt and will run himself into the ground.
Good shout. Given our financial restrictions and lack of youth coming through, I wouldn't be surprised to see Mackie sign on for an extension.
I really hope he is not signed again . For all his efforts there is not very much in the way of end product . Also take a look at the stats when he does and doesn’t play ! He has been unavailable for last 6 games and have 8 points . We see the best of mackie 5/6 years ago . Thanks for the memories but enough is enough .
Sorry but I have to disagree. I'd rather give youth a chance: we have Smyth, Eze, Shodipo, Grego-Cox and possibly others who might be a step forward, plus giving one or more of them a run in the team would send out the right message to other aspiring youngsters. For goodness sake, we also have Wheeler who, despite being with us for 6 months, is still an unknown quantity and yet to play for any meaningful time is his correct position, on the right where Mackie tends to hang out.
Agree, plus there are more in the squad who really should be getting more playing time... well ahead of Mackie anyway.
Just saw on the BBC too; http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42542670 I'd be surprised if he features again this year once he recovers from surgery and then gets his fitness back to the right standard. The soppy QPR fan in me would love to see him back for another year, the logical part of me feels it is time to make space for younger players to come through and start getting more time playing for the first team.
So underwhelming to see his name on the team sheet. I think he’s been playing a few divisions up on where he should be. Time to wish him the best and move on.
Let’s say around £5k a week for chasing down. I am prepared to loan the club my dog, who is excellent at chasing down, and has comparably superior ball control to Mackie, for much less. He will be back, but at Gillingham or somewhere like that. And good luck to him. Never tries less than his hardest, but if we are looking forwards rather than being sentimental, bye bye.
I love Mackie I really do but the time has come to take him round the back of the barn and shoot him in the back of the head. It will be horrible for a while as he’s part of the family but I don’t want to see him living in pain. In time, we may be ready to buy a young headless chicken and teach it to clap too. I’ll never forget you.
I wasn’t saying it’s what I wanted, I was saying that I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mackie get an extension given the lack of playing time that our young players get...think you misunderstood me
