JAMIE MACKIE FEARS DOWNER AFTER HIS RAPID RISE Sunday April 8,2012 By Colin Mafham ITâS only a few seasons ago that James Mackie was struggling to make a living playing non-league football for Exeter for £200 a week. Today he could have a big say in where the Premier League title ends up. The QPR striker, who scored a last-gasp winner against Liverpool and set up the goal that beat Arsenal recently, makes his first trip to Old Trafford this afternoon and will do his damnedest to put Wayne Rooney in the shade. And Mackie genuinely believes he can put a spoke in Unitedâs wheel and help QPR edge closer to Premier League survival. âThis is massive for me. I love playing in the Premier League,â he said. âBut now I have seven games left to make sure I come here next season too. I donât just want one year in the Premier League.â The form book says this is one dream he will struggle to make come true. âWeâre not thinking about what would happen if we go down. All we are thinking about is staying up,â he continued. âIf Iâm on the bench and we end up getting the three points, Iâm happy.â Mackie is likely to pinch himself when he steps out at Old Trafford today. He said: âIâve never played there before, so to be going there is just great. United have top players in every position, so itâs a great chance to pit yourself against the best players.â That includes trying to convince team-mate Anton Ferdinand to reveal any weaknesses his brother Rio might have. âAnton can share his knowledge about his brother with us. Trouble is, his brother doesnât really have many faults, does he?â added Mackie. Mackieâs brothers, William and Angus, are both United fans and will be in the crowd today, along with the rest of the family.
please no cricket score today, diakite dont get sent off and can we please double up on Nani and Valencia!
...leaving even more room for Rooney and co down the middle!!! I know 67... been racking my brains over what to do and end up thinking glad it ain't my call.
And there was naive little me thinking that your comment was in response to this: “Anton can share his knowledge about his brother with us. Trouble is, his brother doesn’t really have many faults, does he?” added Mackie. I now realise that it was instead a dry response to the title of the thread!
Drop this talk of parking the bus in front of the goal. It's not Barcelona we are playing. United are no world beaters. This will be the worst team to win the Premiership in years.
Juidging by his comments on the other thread, Watford's joking Kerry. He's all for having a go at them. It's me that's been the more reticent tbh - although as I've since worked out I can now see ways of subduing their wing play (a bit!)...
remember 1992.....no one gave us a hope in hell of winning.........football is a funny old game and its 11 v11. It will be decided on the team that wants it the most. Come on you R's...you always play better against the better teams, and no one is expecting a QPR. Terrorbat...Now's the time (and platform) to prove you've got what it takes to be a class act
We can match this lot. If we are up for it we can beat anyone, Barca included. I just hope that the right Rangers turn up.
We have no pressure on us today as the results went our way. But trust me all pressure is on man u as they know they have to win and are expected to win by most people. And that is good for us we just need to go at them and keep the crowd quiet. i've got a good feeling about today as i would rather be playing man u then someone else in the bottom 5.
Spot on BR. We're not good enough to go all out defence and there's no point having Taarabt in there if that was the plan. We're more likely to get a 3-3 than a 0-0 imo and we'll try and play the same way as last week, albeit with a lamb up front rather than a lion.
