Italian striker claims to have Premier League offers to consider By Simone Bargellini. Last Updated: November 30, 2011 3:52pm Federico Macheda admits he has already discussed the merits of a loan move away from Manchester United and claims to have offers on the table. The Italian has struggled to force his way into Sir Alex Ferguson's plans this season, with injuries and the form of his attacking competition keeping him out of the picture. Macheda is now weighing up his options ahead of the January transfer window, with the prospect of a short-term deal elsewhere put to him. He says Premier League sides have been in touch, giving him food for thought. A disappointing spell at Sampdoria last season has turned him against loan deals slightly, but he admits the opportunity to remain in England could sway him. "An assignment on loan in January? We have opportunities, but I definitely won't be going back to Italy," Macheda told tuttomercatoweb. Choices "I would like to play in England, today and tomorrow, because I want my future to be at Manchester United. "There are proposals from the Premier League, we are evaluating them and we'll make our choices when the time comes." Asked about his standing at Old Trafford, with fellow academy graduate Danny Welbeck having edged ahead of him in the pecking order, Macheda added: "My situation at United? We have many strikers and it is complicated, but I understand the situation. "Welbeck has exploded, I was injured for a month and I only came back for 10 minutes on Saturday (against Newcastle). "Welbeck is a great player and a very good person. I have played alongside him since I was 16 and we were in the youth teams together. "I am tipping him to be a big star in the future. I also believe I am capable of matching him because, despite some criticism, I am still only 20 years old."
If he was free, as in Man Utd were still going to pay his wages - then why not! However, we have good strikers - they just need to be given the chance. The system we play, there will only ever be one guy up front. Would any player (worth M£50 plus) get any more ball than the ones we currently have? I don't think so. We must now get better midfield ball players. Those that can play in the opponents half, thus we can have more players forward = more players in the box = more players with chances to score = no need for extra forwards. Very good mobile midfield & central defenders. Let's try and loan Toure from Man City & Lampard fom Chelski. Alternatively, get Dyer & Sinclair to get the ball in the box more often. Its frustrating we have great players and IMO playing better than last year, yet we started last year finding goals difficult. Why haven't we learnt, or have we and gone for strikers rather than creative players?
While I agree we have good strikers at the club, I think Macheda would suit our system really, really well, and if it wouldn't break the bank to bring him in on loan, I'd be all for it.
I said we should have got this kid last season. Really looks a hot prospect and I think he would fit the style of play that we have. But, do we really need a striker? Graham has done well, but it's the supply that's the issue, not the strikers. If he doesn't get given chances, he isn't going to score. Maybe get Macheda and put him in behind Graham? It means dropping a midfield player but it may be worth a try?
I'm with JackSwan on this one and believe the strikers we have are great - it's that missing link not giving supply that's the problem..
lets write a letter to BR demanding Dobbie starts a game - if he is bad take him off. JackAsh, your mission, if you accept it is to write a letter to BR
I see some on here think we don't need a striker!! Time to wake up lads and smell that beautiful coffee, let's examine the strikers shall we, firstly Moore, if you wait for him to get up a head of steam, you'll be waiting till Christmas come, Lita is a goal poacher, and in his heyday was good at it, whether he can rekindle the form he had with Reading under Steve Coppell, when they were in the Premiership, only time will tell, though I have my doubts, that brings me to Dobbie, who many consider to be not up to Prem quality, now how can we tell, he's not had any game time, and to me he is the only one that given a run of starts behind our main striker, will give us goals, as he showed at Wembley. I hear that Rodgers is looking for a striker, and have this on good authority, so I will just conclude by saying I'm one happy Jack! In Buck Rodgers we trust..................... please log in to view this image
i would not call our strikers great at all, our goal tally tells you that straight away. we need a striker that can make something out of nothing and brendan may have found one in Ireland, I hope so anyway....now a couple of better midfielders that go forward and not backwards and a couple of defenders who are tall and better and we will survive.....happy days....
