Recently read that MH contract is ready for renewal. A couple of points . Do you 606rs think he will. Do you want him to. I personally think he will wait until the last moment, a major factor is whats on offer and how much will M A F make available in the transfer window.
Depends on what offers come in from other clubs. I've heard villa might be interested depending on houllier's recovery and because of their generally disappointing season. I think sparky would go there if an offer did come in, as if we're honest they are a much bigger club with I assume a larger transfer budget. However, sparky seems to have grown into the role quite well here over the second half of the season, as he looked largely disinterested earlier on. I'm still rarely impressed with his post match interviews, but he seems to be building a good squad having made some good signings (salcido aside). I think whether we get into europe next year may impact his decision to stay or not as well. Furthermore his experience at man city may make him think twice about jumping ship for a big club with huge expectation and limited patience.
he has committed himself via the club website. big club comes in and I mean Villa, I think we'd struggle to hold onto. What a blow that would be.
He was reported this morning on the radio (BBC London I think) saying he wanted to stay. I do hope he stays.
Interesting one this RF. I read this morning that one of the requests by Hughes and his team when signing the contact was that there be a clause allowing them to leave at the end of this season. He signed a 2 year deal but insisted on this being a clause in there. My feelings are that this was to cover his ass and his staff if it all went wrong. From what he has been saying in the press recently he seems happy and admires the work put in by the team. A strong finish will hopefully keep him interested. I have said before that I struggle with identifying him with our club. I think that what he has done footballing wise has been good. We look like a team who is trying to do more in an attacking sense, with some better defending we could have be top 10 easily. I would like to see him stay another season and see who he can bring in. A striker and 2 full backs will do for me. Bringing through one or two youngsters as well would be fantastic.
I hope he stays. His time at Fulham is a work in progress, but continuity is so important. What happens when a club gets a new manager? Players coming and going, a change in tactics & style, instability.
I agree. He owes it to the players and the Club. As you say it is work in progress and you can't come in dropping good proven players of last year to build your "own" team and then bugger off. The season has been OK, nothing fantastic, and I think we should expect more from the squad next season.
TIME WILL TELL I only hope that the players this forums subscribers suggest should go, are not kept and we loose some of our few star players.
Martin O'Neill left Villa because he felt they weren't giving him the money to take the club any further. I don't think Hughes will see them as a club with a better platform for him than ours at the moment - he's made several comments about what a good behind the scenes set-up we have here, how he's able to concentrate on the football side of his job because he doesn't have to waste time sorting out a lot of secondary things (which wasn't the case, apparently, when he was at City). As I've said before, if a Champions League side comes in for him, I would expect him to leave; if it's a club with serious Champions League ambitions (say, Spurs) likewise. Once you go beyond the top six or seven, I don't think he'll leave us for another English club. Rocky's right: what we need now is some continuity. It's also what Hughes needs - to show everyone that he can build a team over time, the way he did at Blackburn.
I suppose it will be a summer of speculation. One of the problems will be if a top club has a fallout with a manager (aka O'Niell last season), Hughes might just be tempted. Lets hope that Hughes doesn't leave us in the lurch, looking for a manager in August.
Good point SBM. Let's hope Mo stays on the ball & doesn't discover he needs a new man too late in the day last like summer. I sincerely hope this is all speculation and that the manager stays.
I'd be surprised if Hughes left for Villa at this point in time. They are not sufficiently large to take another short job in the CV for Hughes. If someone like Spurs came in for him, that would be a different question. In fact, as I finish typing, I realise I could have just said I agree with the Captain!
I was surprised by the statement on the club's website yesterday - I thought the policy was to not comment on press speculation. I hope Hughes stays, but if he goes, he goes. It won't feel like the end of the world as it did when Roy went last Summer. I can see him going to Villa if Houllier leaves and they come in for him - they are a bigger club and there's clearly still some ambition there given how much they spent on Darren Bent in January.
I hope he stays ... he was my top choice when Roy left. I was screaming for his head in December when things looked bleakest, but now that the teams seems behind him, he's our best option.
I think Hughes is a good manager and if given time he can really turn us into a very good side. I think if he leaves us I dont think it will be us getting rid of him I think it will be a bigger side snapping him up. I really hope he stays for years to come as I think he'll do a really good job for us.
I hope he stays, and I think he probably will, short of a bigger club coming knocking (like everyone else has said) QFT
Read in The Daily Mail on Saturday that Hughes has bought a house in London and so have his two assistants. I guess that means he intends to stay.
He played that card to get a big transfer kitty. He really seems to like Fulham and I think he will be here for a while to come as long as MAF backs him in the transfer market. The Osvaldo deal is about 40% done apparently. Mackintosh has been working on that one for a few days now.
At the end of last season I said Hughes was my top choice for the job. I know the frustration a lot of us felt at the end of last year, but for me that was always tempered by the fact BZ was still out. I think Hughes has done a good job this year in awkward circumstances. I don't think his signings were bad; Dembele is quality but brittle, Salcido is normally solid but loses confidence easily, Sidwell looks very good & Gudjohnsen looks decent when not utilised as a targetman. We are currently 8th in the table with a decent chance of finishing there. In the PL of haves and have-nots, that puts us second in the table behind Everton. Certainly not a terrible result. On the pitch, the football we play suddenly looks so much better with BZ on the pitch. We have a tendency to try and play flowing football that gets frustrated when the end result does not come. We don't have Konch to cross from the left anymore and losing BZ as well disrupted our main attacking weapon. With BZ back and the use of crosses from left back being scaled back, we look good again. In summary I am happy with MH this season. We certainly should tie him up on a 2 or 3 year deal but no longer than that. I think a full off-season with the players and some time to bring players in could allow MH to really push on next year. And by push on, I mean winning our league (by finishing 7th).
