Interview: Pearson calls for work rate and commitment Friday, August 13th 2021 Nigel Pearson says City must strive for improved all-round performances as they look towards their next match in the Sky Bet Championship. He described a “mixed week” after watching his conceded late goals in their first two games of the season including a Carabao Cup penalty defeat, but he was able to get more match minutes into the majority of his squad. Looking forward the manager believes he has “better balances in the squad” and looks to see what they can do against a Middlesbrough side also looking to find a first win of the season. “I think the squad has experienced some late heartbreak in both games,” said Pearson. “I thought we played pretty well against Blackpool and all but for one passage of play at the end we deserved to win. It’s a reminder of what football is about and as we found out at Forest Green, if you don’t take the chances or put your chances to bed by managing the game, you can come unstuck. “It could have been a better week but I’m encouraged by how we played against Blackpool in the opening game. That day was a really good day for football, to have fans back in and it was good to see such a good crowd at Ashton Gate. “It’s been a mixed week but having two games where almost the entirety of the squad have been able to get pitch time has been beneficial. “Our fans have not had a lot of things to cheer about in the last six months or so, so we need to put in performances where they can see commitment and drive. I think we have a better balances squad this season, so as it progresses we should have more consistency to our play.” Middlesbrough drew 1-1 with Fulham on the opening day of the league, while they exited the Carabao Cup after a 3-0 defeat to Blackpool in midweek. Pearson was in the stands for that one as he cast an eye over Saturday’s opponents. “Middlesbrough didn’t get the result they wanted but they split their squad as well. It will be a tough game up there but for me it’s about how we set up and perform ourselves. “I want our work rate and collective commitment to be very visible, so we can get an away win which will set us up nicely. It will be a tough game, there’s no doubt about that. “It’s about making sure our squad and whoever starts at the weekend are ready for the game.” Saturday's match (August 14th) is a 3pm kick-off. https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/interview-pearson-calls-for-work-rate-and-commitment/ * MansionBet Match Preview: Middlesbrough (A)https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/mansionbet-match-preview-middlesbrough-a/ * Interview: ‘I’m ready to attack the season’ – Atkinsonhttps://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/interview-i-m-ready-to-attack-the-season-atkinson/

There are not too many options if he carries on with a 4-2-3-1 formation. Possibly put Wells out left and Palmer in the middle. Scott played well against Blackpool, but tired earlier, and Boro are a LOT better than Blackpool imo, so could be too much for him.
Middlesbrough v Bristol City: Neil Warnock redoubles efforts to strengthen Boro Middlesbrough chief Neil Warnock plans to delve into five decades worth of managerial experience as he attempts to “conjure up” some goals when his side entertain Bristol City this afternoon. The 72-year-old believes that the Teessiders, who have netted just once in their opening two fixtures of 2021/22, are light up front and is desperate for reinforcements. “Bristol have got a great record against us, so we’re up against it, but I’ll conjure something up,” said Warnock. “We’ve got to come up with a formula to give us a chance of winning the game. I haven’t got a problem at the back or in midfield, it’s just my forwards really, trying to find a formula where we can create and score goals, which is not easy at the moment with the players we’ve got. We do need an input there and we are working. “One or two things have cropped up in the last 48 hours. I’ve spoken to a couple of players and I’m quite optimistic that we can get these done.” Reinforcements are however unlikely to arrive in time even for Boro’s midweek showdown with Queen’s Park Rangers. “We are working really hard to get bodies in, but it looks like we are going to have to struggle through this week,” Warnock added. “There have been all sorts of problems, really. You’ve got to talk to the agent, I try and talk to the player. Other clubs come in for players, they don’t want to move, all sorts of things come into it. Some of them don’t want to move to the North East. “But you’ve just got to keep going. Over the last 24 hours I’ve been a lot more confident of getting a couple in, hopefully by next weekend. I can’t see us getting them in before QPR though, which is disappointing.” https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/spo...-redoubles-efforts-to-strengthen-boro-3346456
We never had a problem with the defence, so why change it? The problem was Weimann missing 2 chances, ODowda missing another, Vyner's stupid free kick on the halfway line with 90 seconds left and Weimann being far too weak on the edge of our box for their goal.
Why do always make stuff up?, where exactly did I express that view?, I just pointed out that Blackpool beat Middlesborough 3-0, which is to be fair quite a beating and not decided by the lottery that is penalties.
What did I make up? I said Boro are better than Blackpool, to which you responded that I clearly didn’t see that Blackpool beat them 3-0 in the Carabo Cup, implying they are better than Boro. So I applied your logic to my statement that FGR must be better than us then?
No that is nonsense, I was pointing out that Blackpool had beaten Middlesborough 3-0, nothing more nothing less, I wasn't applying any logic just pointing out the score, you as usual applied your own logic.
A much-changed Boro side exited the Carabao Cup at the first round stage after going down 3-0 to Blackpool. Neil Warnock had made nine changes from the side which drew at Fulham on the opening weekend https://www.mfc.co.uk/news/match-report-blackpool-3-boro-0

Simply that I think you should play your best defender. I realise what your saying in the build up but who's to say Kalas wouldn't have stopped Lavery scoring last weekend. I think Kalas has been our saviour on many occasions and certainly more than any other defender. We'll agree to disagree.
