What's the point scratching away at the problems South Africa still suffers from, and emphasising racial divisions. Doubtless there is corruption within the ANC government, but the tone of your post Royston suggests you believe South Africa would be a better country if the white minority was back in charge. South Africa is an inclusive democracy now, is it not? Frankly, it was a miracle the Apartheid era did not end in a blood bath. I'm sure there are still terrible problems there, but events like this Rugby World Cup at least serve to give all South Africans a reason to feel proud of their nation. Black and white, people of every background. Of course it's a drop in the ocean compared with the troubles they face there. But they won't find solutions to those problems by polarising again.
@lardiman In terms of both the SA economy (tanking) and societal divisions (ditto), the corrupt & vile ANC Govt has much to answer for. That country will be another Zimbabwe in another 20-30 years. The similarities are obvious. Just as apartheid was wrong, the weekly murders of white South African farmers by savages to steal their land for the ANC, is every bit as wrong. Jacob Zuma (another scumbag) owns & lives in an £8m mansion on a massive estate. He earned the equivalent of £40,000 a year as SA President. Perhaps he won the lotto ?
Shows how important it is to have a viable opposition party. We can see for ourselves how democracy suffers when there isn't one.
It is not up to the Conservatives to ensure there is a viable Labour opposition party... I know Lardi thinks the Lib Dems will be the official opposition in a few weeks time but I can not see them getting more than the SNP
Absolutely, but when there is not an effective opposition party there is a vacuum which gets filled by various factions some of which are within the Conservative Party.
Our democracy is evolving, from a long established 2 party system (with Labour replacing the Whigs a century ago) to a multi-party assembly, where coalitions and alliances will become the norm. This is why I would really like to see a brand new Circular Parliament chamber here, in the style of many other modern democracies. The current bipolar format of the House of Commons does not serve the nation well, except as a living museum piece. And we also need a second elected chamber, based on proportional representation. We should not be afraid to embrace modern democracy, and look to the future. We have clearly seen over the past three years that our Westminster Parliament, both in its architecture and in its creaking, 18th century habits, is no longer fit for purpose.
The Charlton fan Taylor has replied to here is one of the good guys. Taylor’s reply speaks volumes about his own flawed personality.
Bob, the fan in question, has been a Charlton fan for over 50 years and made an innocuous joke that KAG had scored more goals.
Being cynical, this injury has come at a disastrous time for Lyle Taylor. He needs to be in the spotlight for the January transfer window.
Lyle Taylor is a real journeyman footballer. Look at the number of clubs he has had. Apps (Gls) 2007–2009 Millwall 0 (0) 2008 → Eastbourne Borough (loan) 4 (1) 2009 → Croydon Athletic (loan) ?
