I would guess that most on here would have watched this one on the tele already so no need for a big report. All you can do is win the match away from home and that is exactly what Argyle did. I thought the first half was quite poor and although Luton had their fair share of the play they didn't really do a lot and McCormack looked very comfortable. A couple of chances for Argyle but all in all nothing to write home about. Second half I thought Argyle were a lot better than the first without ripping up any trees. They could and should have won this one by a couple more goals with the chances they had and missed far easier ones than the one Blizzard put away. Blizzard did very well by going past a couple of Luton players before slotting in the bottom right hand corner. Welll taken and good goal. Alessandra missed a couple of sitters in my book and last season he was putting them away for fun. Obviously hasn't found his scoring boots yet. Worrying bit is Bray came on, got booked in the first minute of his appearance and then went down injured after a couple more. Thought he was going off then but soldiered on for a few more minutes before actualy being subbed. He looked a bit upset walking off down the touchline so I have everything crossed it isn't the usual Argyle curse. Luton I have to say didn't look much and without a win so far out of 5 in the league I think they might struggle this season to stay in league 2. All in all a pleasing day for Argyle fans.
Strange really .....Luton waltzed the Conference......and on that form where down as promotion possibilities......yet Cambridge only just made it and are doing better. No Sky by principle in this household sensible.....so no I haven't watched the matched......but pleased I got the prediction wrong.....either way it was win win scenario for me which ever way it went.
I don't have sky in my house either so went to watch it at Hairy's although there were plenty of pub venues as alternatives down here. You didn't miss a great game just a good result. I should have mentioned that the Ref was ok most of the time but Argyle should have had a stonewall penalty for handball in the second half. Nelson was booked in the first for exactly the same thing albeit not in the box in the first 5 minutes yet this one in the box went totally unpunished. Looked deliberate to me and could have been a red possibly as well.
Comments about a handball situation right at the start for a Luton penalty.....did you see it ? Too busy (going away) to seek out a rare Sky viewing around here......although PASALB got together (those that didn't travel to the game) at the Hoop & Grapes up town.
I thought the commentators overplayed Luton's superiority in the first half. They may have edged it on possession and territorially but Nelson and McCormick were immense. Luton were allowed only a few clear chances and their finishing of the ones they did get was was woeful. I think there were only 4 of last year's Luton side that started today and perhaps that's where they have gone wrong. Reid worked hard throughout and was excellent in the 2nd half but he's never such a threat as a single striker as he is in a pair. We should have had a penalty in the second half considering Nelson was booked for much less of a handball in the first. Blizzard should have done better with a cross from Alessandro although to be fair it came to him suddenly. I was glad to see Banton go off although after Bray's short but eventful outing (booked, assist for the goal and knee injury all in 11 minutes), Smalley didn't have the same impact he did against Stevenage. All in all we were very well worth a point and probably deserved the 3 for the 2nd half performance. MoM for me: Curtis Nelson. So far, the season's not so bad.
I think the MOM could have been out of 3 players notdistant. Nelson didn't do much wrong all game. Mac did everything right. Reid did very well in the second with his holding it up and running at Luton. I wouldn't have had much problem with any of them getting it. I think our keeper is going to have to go some this season to get nominated given his previous. I don't think sponsors etc want to get dragged into an argument.
Sponsors notwithstanding, I always feel safe with him in goal. He was booed everytime he touched the ball today and I'm sure that happens at every away match. There you are, a tragic life, nothing he can do to rectify it.
I think he has won over the Argyle faithful already generally and like you I would rather him be in our goal than somebody elses. You are also right that he can't do anything to change history now and will always get boo's from the home fans when away. He gets enough from the away fans when home as well. But MOM he is unlikely to get no matter how good he performs.
