Socceroos Asian Cup hero Massimo Luongo admits apprehension over his role at Queens Park Rangers now Neil Warnock has returned as caretaker manager.
Luongo's career has been soaring seemingly skywards since the instinctive young midfielder took January's Asian Cup by storm with searing performances, along with a goal in the final that earned him the tournament's best player award.
There is little doubt about the previously unheralded 23-year-old's place in the Socceroos, with coach Ange Postecoglou starting him in Australia's last three World Cup qualifiers.
However Luongo is far less certain about where he fits into QPR's new structure under Warnock, who is back at the helm as the Championship outfit's interim boss after coach Chris Ramsey was sacked last week.
In Warnock's first match in charge on the weekend, Luongo sat on the bench as an unused substitute, forced to merely watch his team play out a listless goalless draw with Socceroos teammate Bailey Wright's Preston North End.
He concedes a slight feeling of uncertainty has come with the departure of Ramsey, his former Tottenham academy mentor who was instrumental in bringing him to QPR from League One side Swindon Town after last season.
"I probably had a discussion with a few people saying, how could this turn out for me? Could it be a good thing or a bad thing?" Luongo said in Canberra where he is in camp with the Socceroos preparing for World Cup qualifiers against Kyrgyzstan and Bangladesh.
"You can't really do much to be honest. If you're doing well in training, if you're playing well, then you've done everything you can, which I've done.
"So I've just got to wait for him to pick the team.
"Unfortunately I'm here now, so I can't keep doing that. But it's just the way it goes."
Warnock took QPR to their 2011 Championship triumph and subsequent promotion to the Premier League, before they were relegated again at the end of last season.
He now faces an uphill results battle, with the under-performing Rangers lagging in 13th on the table and 14 points behind leaders Hull City and Brighton.
Luongo wasn't overly happy about being absent and unable to prove himself to a largely unknown coach.
But he saw his time on international duty as a chance to re-centre before returning to press his case under noticeably changed circumstances at Loftus Road.
"It's obviously a different set-up, different type of training and real shift in the team," Luongo said.
"But it comes with the job - you go through a lot of managers, especially in the Championship.
"You just get on with it. I just keep doing what I'm doing, and if he wants to pick me then he can pick me.
"I'll still do my own thing regardless, in training or in the game."

Like most 23 year olds, he hasn't yet mastered the essential interview skill of " Whatever you say, say nothing"

He's been here 5 seconds, no wonder he's uncertain.
Look at us fans, after 40 odd years, we still haven't got a ruddy clue!

I think Luongo has been the outstanding performer amongst our Summer recruits. I think he is best suited to playing in the middle behind the striker in my preferred 4-2-3-1 formation. He has shown himself keen to take on defenders, offers a great deal of creativity and, as demonstrated against Brentford, offers a goal threat. Unfortunately, Leroy Fer, who has blown hot and cold this season, plays in that same position and Luongo must be rated unlucky to lose out to Fer. I suspect Luongo was bought because everyone thought Fer would be leaving us.

I'm not surprised he is "uncertain".

Think he could have a massive future with us, really hope so. Thought he played a slightly deeper role at Swindon and don't get why he isn't given a go there, if he is another who doesn't really get a chance it will be a huge disappointed, this is a player we should and in the past have been building into a top level star. He does have to realize that this may take a little time though.

I thought Luongo had spent most of his career playing further back, and preferred that. I'd certainly like to see him in the 2 again, I think we need his speed of thought and legs there.

I'm not sure of Luongo's history at Swindon to be honest but given his strengths, as listed above, I'd like to see him play in the middle of the three behind the striker. For me, he has been more consistent than Fer, who has generally seemed to drift in and out of games this season.

Whatever Luongo's best position, he has a lot of talent/potential and, based on his performances to date, would be unlucky not to be a regular starter.

Balls I did a good post about a pig slaughtering based reality TV show on that thread, now it's lost wherever retired pixels go forever. Nines, do you remember that thread where we did loads of stupid ideas for TV programmes? I can't track it down.....

Absolutely bang on. His legs and energy are being vitally missed in the middle, and hes clearly more comfortable with the ball facing the opposition than he is receiving it with his back to goal. Unsure how CR couldn't quite obviously notice that, We desperately need someone to quicken things up in the middle. In all fairness to sandro and Faurlin, they tried their best to do that on Saturday.

I've just gone through it myself and had a good chuckle. That's comedy gold that is and certainly more entertaining than watching the Rs at the minute. . Matt, Chaz, Eamon and Uber are all hilarious and ingenious on there. I've just thought of another couple of shows, I may have to bump it.
