Great news! Maybe the mods could sticky this at the top under "Luke Shaw commits future to Saints" or something like that? Happy. Nice start to the day that.
Fantastic news but dearie me, I watched his interview on the Youtube channel, first time I've actually heard or seen him speak since I don't have Player, Fran wasn't exaggerating about not being the most eloquent of young gentlemen, and the poor guy seems to have a tongue too big for his mouth. I still <3 you though Luke please don't ever leave.
Nice story but no mention of a contract, so essentially nothing has changed. I still don't believe he will leave obviously, but this is quite misleading.
TBF PTF he can't sign a contract yet as I understand it so what more can he or the club do at this point.
Chances are he has agreed to sign the contract, a pre-contract agreement that will come into effect when 18 in July. Great News for the club, and as Luke says, there's more youth players to come!
Very good news - this commitment means more to me than news of us signing somene that i have never heard of who might stay a short while and cost Saints a fortune. After years of our young talent leaving for the bigger clubs as soon as they are in the first team this is so refreshing. Even if we do get relegated. I cant see how Shaw can commit himself any more than this, until he is old enough to sign a contract.
Great news and good that, for once, the club gave us some information. I did look up the FA academy rules and he is required to sign for us if we offer a contract. Doesn't mean he couldn't be sold, but he couldn't leave us up the creek without a paddle. This is the best thing for Luke's football development and I'm glad to stop all the media chat implying that it's only a matter of time till he leaves. Feels as good as a signing.
So pleased with this news this morning! I genuinely believe this is the best move for the lad and his development.
He will be signing a contract on his 18th Birthday, probably similar to JWP recently, a 5 year contact. Subject of course to what happens in the near future. As in anything to do with the beautiful game, anything could happen, I hope it all turns out for the best, he could be snapped up by any of the big teams throwing big bucks, but the chances are he would just be an expensive bench warmer, why would that be to his advantage?
Actually he's already signed a contract. As Adkins said before the arsenal game: "Luke is under contract, he is playing football for us in the Premier League, which is important. We are not looking to let him go anywhere if anyone wants to come in for any of our players, by all means speak to the chairman. He does the deals and all the best with that." So what's the point of the story exactly? It's club policy that he won't be offered a better deal until he's 18, so as of today, nothing has changed. There is no news.
The news is that Luke has come out and spoken. Means he considers this the best place for him at this stage.
Surely the news is that he has come out, in person, and verbally (albeit not contractually) committed his long term future to the club, great news IMO...
If saints avoid relegation then fine, i doubt that we'll lose any of the best players. Its all about being in the prem.
The news is that lazy journalists who pretend without evidence that Luke is off to arsenal, chelsea etc, have been told that there is no basis to their non-stories. Not that that will stop them from making stuff up.
He does however mention that Prowsey has signed a five year deal and that he is looking to do the same. Basically it's a big two fingers to Arsenal and Chelsea. I like that.
He's said this in every interview he's ever done. This just shows the standard of journalism generally that everyone, even the FA, is reporting "Luke Shaw signs long-term contract" this morning. It's clearly not the case. Yes, he has publicly stated he plans to sign a new contract when it's offered, which is slightly more than he has ever said before, but he has not signed a new contract. The article on the OS makes no mention of the word contract at all; compare with the JWP story: "Ward-Prowse Pens New Deal", subtitled: "Saints are delighted to announce that James Ward-Prowse has signed a new five-year contract." — if Shaw had signed a contract they would be shouting about it. I suppose from a media-management point of view, it's a great success for the club, but there's nothing concrete to this story whatsoever.
