Some reports are suggesting that we (along with just about everyone else) are in for Luke Shaw.

Another player developed through the ranks at Southampton, he certainly looks like a good prospect. An attacking LB with an eye for goal, he'd definitely fit the profile for an Arsenal fullback.

I think Santos is a decent player and will do a good job for us at LB but he'll need a younger understudy and I'm not sure that Gibbs (as much as I want him to) is going to push him. It Could be a good move to bring in Shaw now and let him develop along with the likes of Coquelin, Frimpong, Yennaris, Oxo etc, where he could be part of the spine that will shape the future Arsenal team.

Also with Walcott and Oxo coming from Southampton to Arsenal, he may well feel that it's a path he want to take also?

4m is too much for player who isn't playing regular first team. Obviously he isn't as Southampton are leading the Championship. If Arsenal are going to get him, now is the time, as if Southampton are promoted, it'll be far harder to take players off them next year.

He's 16 isn't he? Do you think wenger is going to bring in a 16 year old and look to play him this season? I highly doubt it, he probably won't feature in the 1st team for 2 years, although he is a very promising young player. I thought we were after aly cissoko from lyon who is a great full-back and would do a great job for us, i would really like to see us go and get him.

I'm one of the Saints fans who are not bitter so please don't take this in the wrong way but I don't think you'll get him, for several reasons. Firstly he's a saints fan born and bred unlike oxo whos dad was a pompey fan and player and as such his son wasn't a saints fan. Also we really don't need anymore money I think we're the 5th richest club in england so we have no reason to sell unless its so silly money like oxo was. He's quality though I expect to see him in an england shirt in about 5 years time.

I guess it depends on how much the player would be tempted by a move to Arsenal. As much as he is a saints fan, it would be difficult to turn down an offer from Arsenal really. Especially given Wenger's track record of giving youngsters a chance. If he's as good as people say he is, Wenger will play him.

£4m I think was the figure being quoted, not a huge amount if he is as good as people say. He's only 16, so he needs to prove himself. But it's definitely an area that we need to strengthen in in the future. I'm not sure Gibbs is going to make it, I hope I'm wrong, but I think we should be thinking about this position now.

Why not? We've got Santos who's 28/29 - he's only going to be able to give us 2-3 seasons at the top, so we need to be planning for a back up now. I think we need better quality than Gibbs, so it makes sense to bring in a young player now and develop him at Arsenal through the ranks.

We were! Then we got bought by a multi-billionaire! And on the point of arsenal that's true but as I said he's a saints fan and its quite likely we will be in the prem next year and then you'll only have the champions league over us (obviously your a bigger team and better squad) that could really take him, which isn't even a certainty at the moment. And if we don't get promoted we're playing gorgeous football and are going places so he'll stay I reckon.
