I have been mightily impressed with Luke Hyam ever since he made his debut last season under Roy Keane.

I just love this boy's attitude which has a touch of the Roy of the Rovers spirit to it. A lifelong Ipswich supporter whose dream has always been to play for his home town team. Jewell should be building for the future with Luke Hyam at the very centre of it and he should be made Skipper for next season. If Mick Mills was old enough at 21/22 years of age then its time for Luke to be given the armband. His boundless enthusiasm and love of the club should be enough to make him skipper. He reminds me very much of what Roger Osborne was so good at in as much as breaking up play and keeping it simple.

If Jewell is really serious about developing young players and creating a blue print for future success then he should waste no time at all in tying Luke down with a decent contract and giving him the armband.

Quite a good call yes, but as I have said before, to me a captain is insignificant in football, something which Paul Jewell believes to. Think you have pointed out before j.w.m, that Mick Mills was a great captain, and do not think too many people would argue against that. However when he was our captain most of the others in the team at that time, could have been said to be acting like captains. To me it is just a ceremonial role.

I totally disagree with that but each to their own. We need a captain who has pride and passion and that can instill that into his team mates. The Captains role is not 'ceremonial' as you call it and if it was why is there all the hoohaa surrounding John Terry at the moment!

How about Lee Martin, he is extremely vocal on the pitch, he has a good deal of experience as well. He has shown a great attitude this season, frozen out by Jewell, he has come back in & for me has been one of the main reasons for our improved performances. It may be just the responsibility he needs to keep his temper under control when things are not going so well for us.

Hyam is not a bad shout at all, I just feel he is a little to quite on the pitch & still has alot to learn in the game, maybe a candadate in a couple of years time..!

I love Hyam to bits but dont think he is vocal enough. Mature beyond his years but you need someone with a bit of bite. I always thought Bowyer would be a good choice captain but he hasnt shown up this season. There is no obvious De Vos type character here which is probably one of the reasons we have been lacking this season.

That is no reason for not giving him the captain's armband is it! <doh>

He has all the attributes that a skipper needs and his appointment would send a clear signal out that Ipswich Town now believes in young hungry footballers and that they will have a great future with us! <ok>

In ways I agree with you about sending out the right message but it depends on what attributes you want from your captain. In personality (not footballing ability) Hyam seems very like Leadbitter, quiet and unlikely to build confidence up or give a bollocking when needed, which for me are attributes I want from a captain. I have no problem from an age pov and the youth of our team is refreshing, entertaining and part of a long term vision. Hyam might be a model professional and probably the most effective player in the team in doing his role well but Im not convinced that he is a leader, or at least yet.

I don't think many thought that Mick Mills would be a decent skipper when he started out as a 22 year old! Hyam plays with that combative style and with serious hunger and desire. Believe me mate he would be an excellent skipper for us and in years to come! <ok>

JWM, I dont see it and I cant compare with Mick Mills (not born until 1980) but I like the player and as I said previously I cant see an obvious candidate so wouldnt be against it!
Hope youve decided to come to PR tomorrow after missing the game of the season at WHU!

IMO . will make a great captain in a year or 2 . but he is a wee bit to young and altho shining just now i think he needs a bit more time to concentrate on his own game without havin to worry about others
