You seem far more accommodating on here so I just thought I'd ask of your opinion of Romelu Lukaku's performance against you last week?

I know he only had a brief cameo and you were probably preoccupied with your own team but I just wanted to know how he performed. Obviously you can't judge a player on MOTD Highlights and I wasn't able to watch the entire match so thought I'd ask.

He's highly rated at the club and we've invested a lot on him and many were worried he might not cut it at this level but it seems he's doing okay.

Thanks in advance your appraisal would be much appreciated <ok>

He caused a few problems against us when he came on last week, especially when he set up the chance for Morrison? I think.

I think he has the potential to be a very good player! He is very strong and he is faster than you would expect, reminds me of Drogba.

Not quite the finished article yet though. I expect there are many debates about him being the next Drogba over at Chelsea?

I saw him against us and today and from what I have seen he could be a big player in the future, he completely changed the game today and was a constant threat to the Spurs back four and against ours last week (albeit against 10 men). It could turn out to be a shrewd piece of business sending him out on loan, especially as he's under a top coach in Clarke

Thanks for the appraisals thus far guys.

He was tipped to be a replacement for Didier but if I'm being honest I'm not sure where he would fit in our current system. Desperate for him to make it so we'll see but the early signs are encouraging.

  6. He caused a few problems against us but it is probably worth remembering that Carragher was on the pitch by the time he came on, plus only two of our regular back four where involved and one of them was out of position!

  7. I can see that link thought pal. He is a big strong presence with pace, not sure he has Drogba's antics yet though <ok>

He is a big strong lad and also has talent, I expect him to go back to Chelsea next season and start to have more of an influence in the first team. One for the future.

He's a good young player, DL. I can see the comparison with Drogba: strong, fast and decent technically. You may also be right that he might not fit the current system at Chelsea - kinda the issue we're having with Carroll, ATM. I think, though, that he'd be an ideal 'Plan B' (as the vogue phrase runs). Loaning him out where he's picking up time on the pitch is ideal, as a player can't really improve without playing. Personally, if I was CFC, I'd keep hold of him. If he becomes anywhere near the player Didier was, you've got a diamond. Of course, it's the if that's the rub, isn't it? <ok>

Good thing is he is only 19 and is already performing against the big teams

It's encouraging , sure. But, remember: for every Rooney there's a Franny Jeffers! <ok>

As you say, I was more concerned with how badly we were doing than weighing up the opposition.
He looked ok to me, but I have to say I'm not sure about the comparison with Drogba.
Time will tell, but I remember when Drogba played for Marseilles against us (03-04?). He made an instant impression on me, I thought he looked a really good player, powerful and determined ( didn't notice the diving at that time:)) -and this is before I knew anything about him.
Of course Drogba was a bit of a late developer- think he was about 23-24 by then so who knows how Lukaku will develop?
