What do you Toon fans think? Would you want Anelka for 1m in Jan? He's French and he's a class act(on his day).. or Lukaku on a loan deal?

Can Lukaku even move? I thought you couldn't play for 3 teams in one season? Same reason Stoke couldn't sign him earlier on loan?

Wouldn't take either though. Rather develop our own players than loan anyone else.

If Anelka's wages were low I would, but he would be demanding a lot.

Wow I completely forgot about Lukaku! I think club is more interested in looking for young players to which they can tie down on long contracts- not loan deals unfortunately. Would love to see him here, if only for a couple months.

Besides, it's far more likely that Drogba and Anelka will depart in order to make way for the younger forward line Chelsea have coming through.

Maybe it's done by transfer windows and not full seasons?

Ahh yea true. That would make more sense. Think I need to install football manager again and learn the rules.

Lukaku is a decent player but he's got steadily worse over the past year. I think he signed for Chelsea before the season started so he won't have played for anyone else yet. Anelka is class and always has been but he's knocking on a bit and his wages will be two high.

Yeah because 1m seems like a bargain for a player of his quality. Yes he will be a free agent in the summer but I'll rather spend the money on him in Jan so he can be cover for the departing Ba who's going to the African Cup of Nations' so we'll need someone to fill in for him.. yes I know we have Best but after that we have Lovenkrands/Ameobi :/ and Anelka would offer us something different upfront. A very skillful and technical striker who on his day can be quality! I think he'll rather stay in the Prem than go off to China/Russia or the middle-east were he'll be forgotten even if he earns 100k a week. <ok>

I think the opposite. He'll probably be offered megabucks from Russia. I don't blame players for taking the big pay cheque near the back end of the careers but I find it a shame where they do it a little prematurely when they could in fact do a couple more years around the top level!

Well you never know.. but yeah you're right I think he'll be off either to Russia, the middle east/china or the USA. <ok>

I'll take him though.. gives us something different upfront and he's French! :D

I'd rather the club permanently sign a new striker with the money instead of giving experience to another clubs player.

I tell you what lads, if you get the chance to sign him, I would hope that you did.

He is a class act, great finisher, rarely injured, very fit and still quicker than most defenders even in his 30's.

I am not keen on him leaving us but he's ready to go so fair do's!

Anelka as someone else said will go to either Russia or the US I expect. Wouldn't mind Lukaku for a month or so over ACoN especially if we sign Maiga as he & Ba will both be off for the month.

Lukaku couldn't go on loan in the summer because you aren't allowed to join a club and then leave to go on loan to another club in the same division in the same window....if that makes any sense I hope that clears it up for a few people!

Personally, I don't want Anelka. He's a v good player but doesn't fit into our transfer policy which has served us well over the last few windows IMO

There's lots in the media about Lukaku going on loan in January including BBC gossip about him going to Everton so maybe his signing to Chelsea happened before he played a competitive game for his previous (which escapes me at the moment) in the summer.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/gossip_and_transfers/default.stm 7th story down.

Yes Alfie, he can join another PL club in Jan, he just couldn't in the summer because he can't join a PL club and then leave to jopin another PL club in the same window. In the next window, he can join whoever he likes.

The 3 club rule usually doesn't apply to loans. It's to stop players transferring every window in order to make more money.

I'd take Anelka, but aside from joining the French revolution, I don't see why he'd come here if the Ruskies are offering megabucks...

Well he is French but I can see Anelka's head being turned by his agent trying to get that one last big pay cheque from him.

I'd only have Lukaku as a back up choice if we don't get the forwards we are trying to target, although by the sounds of it we already have atleast one nearly finalised, he is unproven in the Premier League, and his goals were scored in the Belguim league which must be worse then Championship level.

Neither realistic for me. Anelka a non starter due to age, wages etc. Lukaku, sorry but Chelsea won't be interested in loaning us anyone while we're a threat to them
