http://www.nesn.com/2012/03/report-...tar-forward-would-like-to-stay-with-club.html Luis Suarez signed a five and half year contract with Liverpool 14 months ago. But the two sides are already talking about extending the star forward's contract beyond 2016, according to Sky Sports. "I would like to stay," Sky Sports Suarez told Uruguay's El Pais. "Despite everything that happened, I'm happy here, on and off the pitch ... and at the club they're happy with me and want me to stay." "I have a contract until 2016 and they already want to renew it for me. The coach still believes in me and that's very important, especially after having been out for eight matches." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Great news and I'm especially glad he mentioned the support that has been given to him. Although a controversial person he is still a great player, and if we want to get back in to the CL in the future we need to keep hold of our best players. With goals like his one today he's shown the sort of quality we've been lacking, only criticism is he needs to learn when it's better to keep hold or pass it rather than go on a run.
Good stuf! Not sure what technical change this is - but its a sign of commitment and a positive sign!
I hope he means it. As the OP says, he's a controversial figure- but we're a football club not a role model agency and we need players with that extra unpredictable edge that makes things happen.
The cynic in me says that the technical change will be his wages. That seems to be the main reason people extent their contracts when they still have lots of time to run. Guess he's happy to stay at Liverpool as long as he is the main man, and his money reflects that. We gave Ronaldo a new contract every two years even though he had at least three or four years left to run simply cos he was getting better and more important to the team every year. Hence he wanted more money.
Probably true, unfortunately. There's little real loyalty these days beyond local lads playing for their boyhood club. But then, can we expect any more?
Well we had Torres who always said he loved the club and didn't want to leave etc. and left us 2 weeks after saying something along them lines. If he stays for a more wages then so be it, we have to keep our best players and I'd rather him be coming out with these statements than the storys recently about wanting to move to PSG.
Full article here for you gents. Luis Suárez –In Liverpool, an interview with Silvia Pérez –EL PAIS, Montevideo “Hey, please know that about the Evra issue I am not allowed to speak,” made clear Luis Suárez yesterday at the Liverpool training complex in Melwood. “Only after the end of the season I will give two interviews to Uruguayan newspapers, and two to Spanish ones; I might also speak with a local newspaper here, in Liverpool, which always supported me,” he went on explaining, with his voice affected by a cold that did not prevent him to train, after the interview, in view of the Stoke City match. ** --How’s your life going in England? In Uruguay people believe it must be hell. --Not at all. Obviously, if you go to Internet and read the tabloids, you might think I am going through something terribly difficult, but to be honest, I feel great. Many things have been said here, but I never wanted to read or hear what was being said. It is the same case as when you are about to be transferred; if you start hearing all that is said then, you get crazy. In truth, I would only read what was being published in Uruguay, but nothing from here; and to stay away from the public dimension of the issue was the best decision. I devoted myself to the club, and I kept doing as usual, and forgot about the rest. My fellow players were surprised, they used to tell me they were seeing me acting as if nothing had happened; and their support was also great for me. --It’s been a little over a year you arrived here. What was the most difficult for you in terms of adapting to England? --To drive on the left! (laughs). The first week was very complicated, but there is no solution, you got to adapt to it. I thought that coming to such a different country was going to be very hard, but it was not so. I keep living with my family as I used to live in Holland: away from the people and keeping the same routines. --Could you imagine you would be involved in an issue like this, and that the whole world would be commenting on it? --Obviously not. It is akin to the incident with my handball during the World Cup. I would like the people to remember me because of how I contribute to my team and my goals, and not because of media issues. But these are things that just happen in football, and one day they will be just anechdotes. For the time being, I try to forget about them. --Some British people consider you a victim of the situation, while others think you are guilty. How do you feel about it? -Regarding the eight games ban, I believe I was a victim, to some extent. What hurts me more is that I was at the trial, and there was no concrete proof. It simply was my word against the other player’s, and he was the one they believed. That hurt me so much! There were days I would wake up at 6 to go to Manchester for the trial and I wouldn’t make it back home until 8 pm. That was a complicated moment. The rest of it are just football issues, and there will be people thinking one way, and others thinking in a different direction; but I have already played in other countries, there’s lots of people who know me, and I have already showed how I am. I think I don’t deserve to be treated as I was. --After so many troubles there should’ve been great to meet the rest of the National team, right? -- Great, yes. Apart from my family, they were the ones who always supported me. They came out to the press to declare in my support, despite of all that was being said. That was very important to me. Neither them nor Tabárez had any doubts regarding the kind of person I am. That gave me a lot of peace, especially because our national team image is so important nowadays. --What did Tabárez tell you in the conversation I know you both had? --We spoke about all that happened, since up to then he only knew whatever the people was saying. He wanted to know what had exactly happened. He asked me how did I feel in terms of my emotions, and I told him to take it easy, that I was just fine. I try to do as if nothing happened, but sometimes it is difficult for me. I am a human being and I had my sufferings. For instance if sometime I was bored and I would enter the internet, I would need to close it on the spot, since it was “Suarez this, Suarez that” all over the place. I am happy I have my daughter and my wife and Sebastián (Coates) and his girlfriend, since all of them were a great source of support to me. I told Tabárez that what happened was not reason enough for me to give up, since I am conscious that I have to go on fighting for the club and for our national team. So he brought me before the whole national team group of players, and before them he said that he trusted me. He said that, no matter what people might say about me, he was “bullet proof”, because he knew who I was. That was the phrase he used before my fellow players in the national team. --Are you staying in Liverpool or do you feel that a change in airs woud be good? -- I want to stay. Despite of what happened, I am very happy here, both inside and outside the pitch. Liverpool is one of the greatest teams in Europe, a historical one. When I was a kid I would watch Liverpool playing and I would love the team. And in the club they are happy with me and they want me to stay. They know that what happened was not football-related, and that it is already forgotten. I have a contract until 2016 and they already want me to renew it. The manager keeps trusting me and that is very important. Especially after having been eight games out. --Talking about Dalglish, it is clear he loves you very much since he has defended you so fiercely. Tell us about your relationship with him. --He tries to speak Spanish with me, he asks me how do I feel, how is my family doing. Or whether I saw some particular game and what do I think about some particular player. These are details that I believe are great. Especially since here you don’t normally have these kinds of conversations with the manager. That boasts my confidence. --You already won a trophy with LFC. How do you assess LFC football perspectives for the future? -- There’s only been a year ever since I arrived and I already won a trophy, which is a very difficult thing to achieve in England. The team is undergoing a process of adaptation, since this year we have six or seven new players. We have been average in the league, but if we keep going our way we will make it to Champions next year without a doubt. --It seems you are playing in a different role lately. You create more goals than you make yourself. --The important thing is to help the team. When as a striker you are not at a goal rush, you got to try other things. It is obvious that I always want to finish, but I also like to create chances for others. This is for those who say I play too lonely up there. From outside the pitch things are seen differently. Sometimes we start with three strikers, but the Premier is really difficult. --Let’s go back to the national team. Do you think you will be able to sustain the current level of playing, that has made all of us so proud? --Let’s hope I can. It was very difficult to keep the process going in order to achieve the stability we enjoy now. Now we won the respect of everyone. Other teams respect us the same we did respect them before. We have no fear to play anyone anymore. We know each other by heart with the other players in the team, but you got to keep your feet on the ground, because we know that the qualifiers in South America are incredibly long and difficult. The two matches we have in June are going to be really important to gain some advantage in that respect. --There’s only three months until we have to play the Olympic Games, and they will happen precisely in the country where you are playing now. Would you like to be part of the team? I fancy myself with being there, like all my fellow players. We all want to be there, but the decision corresponds both to Tabárez and my club. If we had to play the Champions, it would’ve been very unlikely my club would’ve allowed me to go, but now that possibility seems to be quite remote. The Premier starts in mid August, so I don’t know whether they would allow me to go or not. I have not spoken about this with the club, since Tabárez has not asked me yet to do so. What I already told him is that here, I play at home (laughs). WONDERFUL: “To play in the Olympic Games with Uruguay would be unbelievable. I already played Copa América and World Cup, but not the Games yet. It’d be wonderful. Awesome!!” TRAIN: “Wednesday I took the train to London just to give some company to Cavani’s wife and their son Bautista, but I couldn’t stay for the game Chelsea-Napoli” SUFFERING: “The one who suffered the most with the Evra case was my wife SofÃa. I would ask her not to read anything else… I told her it was worse to read!”
At least he realises he has something to give back to the club who supported him through thick and thin
I was saying his contract situation needed to be sorted over 6 months ago , most people disagreed an dirided me , but I knew it was the RIGHT thing to do, you have got to seee things happening before they happen. It was obvious other big sides were gonna want Suarez sooner or later, he is class........ end of. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/82855-Comollis-(FSG-Ayres)-next-job-Very-very-important Luckily it appears he wants to stay , that contract needs to be for as long as possible, 7 years , with a clause in it saying he cant move for less than £60m if possible more , this is what you have to do if you wanna keep your best players, if he wants £150k a week , no probs, pay him it, hes our best player , he deserves it. IMO I would want him to have signed the deal by middle of April, LATEST, no f**kin about til the summer when people can get in his head.If Liverpool wanna win trophies, this will be boxed before the season ends, if we are sh*t it will still be hanging around in the summer.
From the report I read, he said Liverpool wanted to extend his contract and he wanted to stay. IMO, that is two seperate statements that we should hope link together!
