Luis Enrique...

  1. 'I wouldn't swap Agger and Skrtel'

Jose Enrique thinks he is playing alongside the two most in-form centre-backs in the Barclays Premier League.

Liverpool have conceded just 23 goals in 25 league games this season, a tally which places them second in the defensive table behind Manchester City on 19.

The form of central pair Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel has even been good enough to keep vice-captain Jamie Carragher on the bench for the first sustained period in his career.

"I play with amazing players," the former Newcastle left-back told Liverpoolfc.tv. "For me, I wouldn't change our centre-backs for any centre-backs in the league. They are both playing amazingly.

"We have one of the best right-backs in the world, because Johnno [Glen Johnson] is really good, and one of the best 'keepers, and we have amazing players in front who help us to defend."

A 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford meant Pepe Reina fell to second in the clean sheet table as Joe Hart kept his scorecard blank at Aston Villa.

Enrique would love Reina to win a fourth Golden Glove award this season, but he insists positive results are what matter most.

"Clean sheets are really important because if you keep one, you have one point for sure," said the Spaniard. "But if we won each game 6-5, I wouldn't care. The most important thing is winning the games, but I'm really happy when we keep clean sheets.

"We are doing well. We defend and attack as one - we play together. I'm happy because as a team we're doing well - only Manchester City are ahead of us in clean sheets.

"We have to keep doing this and score more goals."

    So, Enrique thinks we have one of the best keepers, right back and two of the best centre backs in the world. Is that his way of saying the rest of the team are not up to scratch hence us not being nearer the top of the league or an admission that he thinks he is sh*t...? ;) {Only joking}

In my opinion, we are a goal scorer short of being near the top anyway. Look at the amounts of chances we have create followed by the accuracy of shots on target from those chances and the problem is there in black and white. Of course, Lucas being missing doesn't help but I think Spearing is a good back-up player for now.

    Nice words from Jose!

Agree with you regarding a goalscorer. We've got a solid base to build from and if we put away some more chances we have created, we would be probably be in the top 4. We've hit the post/bar 20 odd times this season and if 5 or 6 of them had gone in instead of hitting the post/bar, we would have a few more points on the board and our season would looking a lot better!

well............... the brave decsions on carragher were taken. I really really wish someone would admit finally that johnson should NEVER be assigned to mark anyone form set pieces etc cos he keeps on lett guys get runs on him.

the fact is johnson in general play is a fine defender when fit. its when he gets in the box under a cross that he's a disaster. rooney isolated him and scored o nthe weekend and so have others.

I think we have 6 players defensively (include lucas) but then the whole thing breaks down.... downing is a flop. adam is a flop, gerrard has no legs, kuyt has no pace at all, carroll is a flop, suarez is a nightmare situation.

I'm amazed were are only 4 points off 4th. AMAZED. credit to the defenders for keeping us in it.

when you buy players who did perform or have guys who historically performed for you and they just don't what can you do? The only mistake we made was carroll....

If we want to build a class side we need to make bloddy sure the rumoured hazard to spurs doesn't happen, we need to get more out of guys we have and drop those who don't perform.

downing, adam, gerrard, kuyt.. thats our midfield basically not doing anywhere near well... why expect carroll to score off nothing?

For me yeah buy the goal scorer cos we fial to convert as well but the whole midfield needs to do 200% better all round.

Downing I agree with and Kuyt is now back up at best. Carroll has started showing signs of wanting to play so I'm happy to give him a chance. Gerrard is still quality and surely deserves time to get match fit. Suarez is what he is, it has not been much fun lately but I'll back him in a red shirt, he needs to repay our faith.

  5. Adam has hardly played since Gerrard returned, Lucas is an automatic choice when fit and Kuyt is back-up at best (your words too). How is that our midfield...? Our best midfield in a 442 is Henderson, Lucas, Gerrard and Downing. Personally, I wouldn't play 442, I'd go with a 451 / 433 system playing Henderson, Lucas and Gerrard in the middle.

I agree that Carroll has been disappointing but also agree with luvgonvo when he says Carroll has shown signs of wanting to play and lacks service.

Downing and Adam have been shocking. The former should not have been signed for £10m let alone £20m! Adam I can tolerate as long as he remains a back-up player at best.

PS - I see Henderson in a similar light to when Lucas arrived. He puts the effort in and there are glimpses of what he can do, he just needs time.
