The 18 year old moves to Weston on loan to gain some first team experience. Not sure on length. Story taken from Vital Gas.
Good move for WSM and Lucas. To be honest WSM have had an excellent few seasons given financial constraints and given a slightly more progressive chairman (during Craig Lairds) time as manager would have been playing Rovers this Season. Crowds of around 240 average home gate mean that typical of West Country Football success will always be limited. Good luck Lucas and WSM.
CJS WSM are not the worse supported team in THAT LEAGUE !!!!!! Thats is how quick interest could wain if Rovers dont do the business and bounce back up first go. I think as an aside Westons record attendance at their current ground is around 1150 v Newport County although I see they played the Sh&t recently in pres season friendly (WSM 2 v 1 Filth) and judging by the number of Teds in the ground might have beaten old record, great result for WSM though.
All I can say is I hope they treat Lucas well. I remember when we sent Haldane there and a lot of the time they treated him badly and isolated him. And before any denials come forth I was their coach driver and saw a lot and heard a lot. Just hope WSM has changed their attitude and hope that DC has him back training with us rather than letting him train there.
To be fair if his leg is OK he could be a useful asset in the current league on non contract terms for us (Rovers) perhaps. I think he is still only aged around 28 so at this level unless a Gorilla sets on him wanting to make a name for himself he'd dance around most defences and opposition players at this level, still.
At the time he was there he tried keeping his head down and just did what he had to. It came out pretty quick after the then manager berated him in public for no real reason it became known that I was a Gashead and from then on I sided with him and, as he was a young lad, gave him words of encouragement. From then on I saw a different side to Haldane and had respect for him. Others when he returned wondered why I championed him as he could be darn frustrating but there is no shirking from it that when he left we lost a very valuable outlet on the wing in pace and skill. His final ball in wasn't always the best but had blue and white running through his veins.
Good on you Gassyade, as you say the lad had blue and white running through him and to be fair if he is fit or could get fit then at Rovers present level I believe he could do a useful job for us. Dont know who the WSM manager (then) that you refer to was but TBH no manager in any job football or not should lose the respect of his workforce (or team) by berating his staff member in public. Sure sign of weakness and inability to take the pressure IMHO. back to Lewis it would have to be on non contract terms I would guess as no doubt the then League Insurance would have paid our a nice wedge due to his perceived professional career being sadly ended somewhat earlier than we would have hoped. I am certain if it was on pay as you play basis/performance related he would jump at the chance to help The Gas bounce back into a proper League. We need all the help we can get especially when it comes to creating goal scoring opportunities, if the leg will stand up draft him in, if not on the terms I suggested its not cost the Club bugger all, and boy haven't they made some bigger F6ck up signings than what I am suggesting during the past 5 or 6 Seasons ! Look at how he is banging goals in for Yate Town, just what we need.
OK he was not exactly a success, Craig Laird was the best of the recent bunch but as always Club Politics and perhaps not being a yes man saw him ousted (eventually). These Club Directors think they are demi Gods ! Reality is little different.
