Widely expected, and even though I think he's a part of the dead wood in this club I still congratulate him and hope that he gets the chance to break the appearances record. Hopefully he can go out on a high with us by getting us back to the Championship.
I still think he has a role to play with the youngsters at the Gate, also I would hope he could pass on his experience on to players like Flint and Williams
and decent back up at right back and centre back looks set to break the great John Atyeo's record this coming season.
That word. He actually can play. I hope that will be extended through the club downwards. The days of vaseline around eyebrows are long gone.
Be good to have him around, sharing his experience and wisdom wid our young uns and helping with team spirit....... May even get a few games and break a record on route this season.........
100% with you on this, still the best defender at the club, will pass the record with ease.what a fantastic job if he leads us back to the championship.
Really Cidered Abroad?? louis has been brilliant for us, good heart and city through and through, really good to have him available for at least another season COYR'S
I applaud SOD'S decision, one more season with Louis playing is fine by me, I was there the day he had his skull cracked, Bristol City 110% plus...
If he is going to play 46 league games and be a solid, take the ball 95% of the time from opposing forwards, then yes it is a good signing for both him and City. But if, as I expect, he plays 10 games and has been signed mostly to provide a role model for the younger members of the first team squad and the Under 21's, then he should have been given a coaching role, and the salary for this would not count on the Playing squad 60% of total turnover. His past history with the club should not be relevant; there isn't room for a "Sympathy Signing" under the financial rules we are obliged to conform with this coming season. I hope I'm proved wrong, but every time he plays in the first team, he blocks out a younger player who will improve with game time. Unfortunately Louis will never improve, that is a fact of life.
None of them will take the ball 95% of the time, but if you want somebody who can fill in, be trusted to perform to a high level and hand down the fundamentals he fits the bill. Ability and experience at a cheap price. He can coach and play if necessary, good business sense.
Yes Louis will never improve but who would you trust if we had a emergency with injuries at the Gate Fontaine, Wilson or Carey I know who I would be happier with in the team, the one who has never let us down and continues to be an inspiration to others even at his advanced, in football terms, years. One more point though even if he had been given a coaching role had the club retained his registration as a footballer to cover the 10 games you suggest the wages would still count against the 60% cap. The best way to increase the number of younger players at lower league clubs to encourage their development simple Any players under say 19 should have their wages excluded from the wage cap.
Very harsh my friend, very harsh. Carey is still the best centre half at the club, until the new boys proove themselves.
One should not believe everything anyone tells you about their salary! Especially a footballer as this seems like one of the remaining secret societies in modern life.
A tough one this, as we all know what Louis has done for the club, but equally keeping him around puts us back in the 'jobs for the boys' mindset that we all know was ruining the club previously. Now he has signed it surely has to mean that either Tangledfeet or Fonts has to leave as we cannot afford to have 5 CB on the books, can we ?
