Lifted from Saintsweb but what's the loudest roar you've ever heard at St Marys? Thinking back and reading through their thread the ones I was at that stand out for me are: Camara v Norwich Rickie equalising against Pompey in the FA Cup. Beattie putting us one nil up against Pompey in the league cup meeting. Any others?
Alongside Henri Camara’s goal, which is rightly mentioned, i’d go for Rickie scoring the first goal against MK Dons in the JPT Semi-Final, 2010. St Mary’s was almost entirely filled with Saints fans - very excited (and relieved) ones when that first goal went in on our way to Wembley.
I think a goal scored st St Mary’s between, let’s say now and season end, could better any previous roars. Also, the season we stayed in the Championship when we came from behind to beat Sheffield Utd (I still love you Stern John) was pretty cool, and loud.
Definitely Camara’s goall. Never heard anything like that since. Slightly soured that the victory was in vain though
At St.Marys? Hmmm that Norwich game does stand out for me as being the loudest. I think Gabbis equaliser at Wembley last year was the loudest I've been in though.
MK Dons JPT semi game was loud! - as others have said there were 31000+ saints fans in the stadium that night and it was ROCKING. Camera's goal as well. And who can forget Lee Barnard's winner after 'as quick as Johnno' Forte's double after being 2-0 to MK Dons. When that went in I actually cut my knee on the seat in front and did my back in as I lifted the guy next to me in the air. Mane v Liverpool also. For the equaliser I knocked my mate over on the left of me, so when that went in I went to hug the guy on the right and as I turned round I punched him in the face! My top though has to be the Mane goal I think. After nearly knocking out the guy next to me I just jumped up and down with my hands in the air like a moron
I was in the united end unfortunately and I don't think I've heard anything like that at a football match.
I was right at the top in the Saints end. I'll never forget what the atmosphere was like when we got back into that game. It was electric. Still gives me goosebumps to think about.
Gabbi's equaliser, Shane at Anfield. At St Mary's the MK Dons match, taking the late lead in the 2-2 vs Pompey.
The loudest roar I've heard recently is that of a bloody Flybe plane's jet engines when they fly over St Mary's.
Yep, I know Shane at Anfield wasn't at SMS, but it was defo one of those moments that you will never forget where you were when it went in! I think that was definitely the loudest I have ever been in my house with a goal. I also had a bad cough at the time so all my other half heard was "Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaas, Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas!!!!!!!!!" cough, cough, bad cough and silence. I passed out form the coughing (I was only out for about 20 seconds).
Good shout that.. All the confusion with the lino having his flag up and then the ref finally gave it. Think I ended about 10 seats across 4 rows down after that. I've thought more about it and for me Camara against Norwich is the one. In general that's probably the best atmosphere I've been involved in St Marys and the stadium shook when that went in.
The loudest cheer will be soon when the announcer says "Welcome this afternoon to our new manager xxxxxxxxxx"
Something special about away goals, I agree, and talking to the fans of the opposition later is always a great way to relive it. Oddly, not many Reds want to talk about Long's goal at Anfield (got to be number one). Recently met a Hartlepool fan who had been at the game when Adam Lallana scored a fabulous goal, and he reminded me that many of the home fans applauded. A wet Tuesday night in Hartlepool. Oh we fair weather fans, eh? As for OP, I'm with the Stern John winner against Sheffield United. Summed up football highs and lows that day. They equalised; Stern restored the lead; he was sent off minutes later and then it was all hands to the pump. Years of Saints supporting in about 10 minutes!
