Remember those "big plans" for Chandhok? Well here they are:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/formula_one/14220866.stm

If the agreement with Chandhok was to give him "a chance to prove himself", his opportunity has come sooner than expected, with many people, myself included under the impression that Chandhok's chance would be at the inaugural Indian Grand Prix. It's no secret that Trulli's been underperforming this year. He never looks happy in the car and he's clearly past his peak. Perhaps Team Lotus are preparing Chandhok for a 2012 drive, just like Torro Rosso might be doing by giving Ricciardo the HRT seat. Perhaps this is a warning to Trulli to stop moaning and improve his driving.

What adds confusion to this story is that Fernandes wants to extend Trulli's contract despite replacing him for a Grand Prix - which seems to contradict the theories that Trulli is underperforming or Chandhok getting his seat next year.

Your thoughts on all of this?

Well I could see Chandhok getting a go very soon but I would of thought Lotus would have Trulli in play for this race and the next to evaluate the power steering in hungary. Maybe Trulli had enough and was willing to let chandhok have a go in the car he thinks will never achieve much till its fixed.

I want Jarno to stay though in a way, I would like to see more wise heads driving around, just rookies crashing about.

Since I had Trulli (now Chandok) in my sweepstake im not sure whether to be happy or not. I dont doubt that Chandok is able to put in better performances than Trulli, but in his first competitive race back?

Who are the BBC going to get for practise commentary now?

I wasn't aware that Lotus had a fix on the way for the power steering, which is interesting. Hopefully it is to Trulli's benefit, but also to Kovalainen's. I'd be interested to see if there is a noticeable improvement in Trulli's performances, or whether power steering was a poor excuse.

Team Lotus have also confirmed they'll have the Red Bull KERS unit for next season. Hopefully they learn some lessons from how it has worked for Red Bull this year, and make allowances for it in the design of the car. Has anyone come across any news of Virgin maybe having the Mercedes KERS unit as a result of their link-up with Mclaren, or Hispania including a unit? Otherwise, the 3 tenths of a second a lap it would probably bring, assuming neither of the other teams make significant progress with their car design, could put Team Lotus considerably clear of the other two teams at the back.
