GT on the BBC web site...quote "We're not in the same streets as them (Bournemouth), we're more of a Yeovil type set-up, you don't have to pay big money to be successful....read into that what you like but with the re-signing of Wildig and Bradshaw, early signs are its going to be another uneventful season!!
...just one 'colourful' or big or good or inspired signing really lifts the mood....where's it coming from?
I would hope Bradshaw and Wildig are just squad players. Both really must produce something we have not yet seen from them to be able to hack it in League 1. GT is correct in his assessment - we are never going to splash the cash like Swindon and Bournemeouth have done but Yeovil's success tells us another model can work. What we do need is an injection of a couple of quality players up front but whether we will get them paying the wages we now pay is probably unlikely. Another option is looking for players that can suddenly step up their game (as Madden did at Yeovil and Pope did at Vale) but we have not been too clever in that skill recently. Ah well - there is always the loan market!
A squad of eleven players is a weird thing. Jake Robinson left on loan after a tepid time with us (although I must point out I liked some of the stuff he tried to do, just din't work with the players around him) and moved to Torquay and had a great loan period. He then moved on to Northampton and had a shocking time. I know players have their ups and downs, but it is down to the whole squad to work together. If Wildig and Bradshaw are put in a squad that promote their best features then we might look back on this season as a success.
we must look on the bright side, we shall be up to strength with 6 more loanees. what roland needs to do is to make the stadium a money making out of town nightspot-- the loggerheads casino-- now that would bring the punters in. we could have sporting dinners, boxing. we need to make money to pay for class players. is jamie cureton playing hard to get? i have high hopes of young tom knocking them in this season. aj has a dream!
yes it certainly looks as though GT will be going with Loanees again this up and coming season, i did struggle last year watching mercenary's going through the motions while i paid good gate money for tripe...the question i ask myself, will i be going to as many games knowing that that im not getting value for money!...Aaron O'Conner signs a new deal with Newport,The 29-year-old was on target 19 times during the season with them, there's lots of players floating around the BSP and league two who would come here on a one year deal to see if they can do a job....
Will there be a signing announced today? Jayne Bebb, club secretary has followed an Irish fella on Twitter...
There's plenty of quality players knocking about non-league, look at Peterborough, year in year out they find the odd gem...Dwight Gayle anyone? How come Town didn't spot him? New scouting system is needed, sorted.
yes we do miss her wit and incredible knowledge of the game, not to mention her fantastic ability to foresee the future
many premier clubs are having a clearout, perhaps gt may pick up some elderly experience from those thinking about retirement, and having a change of mind.
Phil Neville, Wayne Rooney and John Terry, what a core for a promotion push! Sounds like a great idea!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22845791 Crewe find a player in the Conference to sign for an undisclosed fee
So then we have less than six weeks to build a team.....I stress TEAM! The management have known for months the core of the squad, give or take a few contract negotiations....so let's hope things have been happening on the quiet! I bet not cos I now genuinely believe the philosophy is wrong, we don't have an identity. Either the local press is useless or we are just drifting along. Where are the Scottish scouts? As a glass half full person my glass has never been emptier, let's pray for a few minor miracles......there's no feel good factor right now!
I think we may be being a bit harsh on GT and Rowland. We know that they will not (quite rightly) compete with some of the silly money being offered by the boom and bust clubs in the lower leagues. All these players now have agents who only have their own financial reward at heart and we will just have to be patient until their options become narrower and the players/agents take a more realistic view. We know from last year that signing experienced players from League 2 will probably not work in league 1 and we will need to take a punt on some younger rejects from higher leagues (following the Walsall model) together with a few carefully chosen loan signings. Keep the faith - GT is not perfect (who is?) but he is still the best manager we have ever had by some distance and I trust him to rebuild the side having learnt some tough lessons last season.
