SOURCES in the North-East have confirmed that Ipswich Town have accepted a bid for Connor Wickham, believed to be in the region of £13m.

Portman Road officials are keeping “tight-lipped” over the potential Wickham deal, but it seems that negotiations have now gone beyond club-to-club, and are now at the stage of the player and his agent set for prolonged discussions with Sunderland boss Steve Bruce and chairman Niall Quinn.

Notice how we are keeping tight lipped, thats probably because the deal will be undisclosed like it always is with us!!! Why is that i wonder, probably because we let our players go on the cheap and they don't want the fans to find out and cause a riot!!!

I think this is poor business, while teams like Leicester are strenghtening big time and showing real intent, we are selling off our best prospect in years to the first bloody bidder and even before he has had a serious whole season under his belt for us!!
Whats the betting that in a years time he will be sold for £50 million and we probably had a 5% sell on clause, meaning we get a pittance compared to whoever sells him.

I would love to ask Cleggy, just how ambitious are we?????????

One ****ed off Ipswich fan signing off!!!

Spanish, whats to say he wouldn't get a career threatening injury if he stayed with us, we would be without Connor and 13 million! realistically we were never going to keep him, its what we do with the money that is important.

Guru most of that money will go straight into Marcus Evans bank account! It will help pay back some of the investment he has already made!

Whats to say that if he stayed he could go and score 30 goals this season, help get us promoted, triple his value whilst bringing in shed loads for reaching the premiership?
Sorry bud but i think we have sold ourselves short here and should have kept him for 1 more season.

Bit presumptuous this thread. Why do you think he'll agree personal terms with the Mackems?

I still think he'll stay unless he goes to Arsenal i.e. not leave home in Colchester, or Liverpool (boyhood dream)

We can't do anything about it but wait.....

To me, its all down to how much is invested back into the team, we have a wise manager who knows who to buy and at what price which we haven't had since BFJ days. All i'm saying is Connor hasn't really had a full season as a pro, so we don't know how he will cope! The money invested could be what makes us this season.

As a SAFC supporter i would say he will get more first team football here than at Arsenal pr Liverpool, and hopefully he will become as good as Danny wellbeck was for us last season. Just anote to say i see you have signed Chopra, well he will get you about 20 goals next season, because i seen him at Sunderland and he can do the business.

I'm not saying he will necessarily agree terms with sunderland but what i'm saying is that we have agreed a fee which has let everyone know we are willing to sell. He will deffo go somewhere and i would say there is zero chance of him staying now!!

    Steve

Who would you want the money spent on, who would you like in to replace CW? Trust me, it won't be easy to get in the quality needed. We may be able to afford transfer fees for the quality needed but wages?? Then there is also the problem of trying to sell sleepy Suffolk/ITFC to players.

First thing would be to get a decent midfielder perhaps like whittingham. Plus i would put in a bid for Marvin Sordell from Watford, a player who really caught the eye last season. Then look a some of the freebies knocking about to which we can put some decent wages their way.

The thing is, what now if someone comes in for Carson? I bet we would take an offer of about £1 million. Where does this stop? We have to make a stand and say ' We want promotion and to achieve that we need to keep our best players, so no youngsters will be sold and we shall build a team capable of promotion'

Will we say that though? Will we Bollocks!!!

I can see where your coming from spanish, but we have to live in the real world. Not having Connor isn't going to change our direction this season, we need more established players to get us up, not relying on an 18 year old kid, and if his transfer helps us bring in more established players than needs must, and he has to go.

You say that his transfer could double next year, thats only if we gain promotion! if we don't we would still get roughly the same for him as no club will pay much more for an untried youngster. It may seem as i want him to go, I don't. But I can see that we need this money for the push this season and it could make all the difference.

This is the thin and of the wedge as far as I'm concerned!

If we don't make any decent signings off the back of selling Wickham I will be ****ing annoyed!

I feel 13mil is a good price for Wickham although i would like him to stay i think that is too good to turn down, That said the money needs to be spent to give us a balanced team(or just get Dos Santos).

My feeling is the mentioned £13m is probably the rumoured 'release fee' in his contract if so it'll mean no matter how long we keep him he'll go for that

My worry is Sunderland could offer him quite a few games, if not a whole season. But i really hope he sees sense and stays with us and gets a season under his belt, cant really see him going to Sunderland but the attraction of premier league games might be too much, especially since if he does well the bigger clubs will be even more interested.

    Agreed Plum,

It might also explain why the signings have slowed over the last week or so after a quick start. we could get 4/5 really decent players for the championship for that money.

    Hi lads,

Clear while i'm here, and that's for info on the lad.

Some details from our end suggest that you still owe us a few quid from the Edwards and Leadbitter deals, and this accounts for part of the £13million figure.

There's also talk that we maybe send you Ryan Noble on loan for a year.

You may not have heard of young Ryan, but we are all very hopeful of him really making the grade, his goalscoring record across the youth and reserve teams in not good, it's absolutely staggering.

Last season he had a serious back injury, but the season before, he scored something like 37 goals in 32 games, across the u19's and reserves, i know it's not first team, but you'll all agree to achieve over a goal a game over that many games means one thing. Natural goalscorer.

    Anyway, Whickham.

We've had Shearer comparisons, but we see a distinctly average goal-game ratio.

Is he good in the air? How's his short passing and link up? Gyan is an incredibly mobile striker, is Connor? Does he find space and use the ball well?

We all agree the hype suggests a special talent, but we're all a bit wary, as you can imagine, it's mega money for an unproven striker.

Do you lads feel heel make the step up? He will get games, unquestionably.
