I am gutted about Carroll leaving us today. I really hate the idea but if we take the black and white specs off for a sec, is anyone surprised.

I know alot of people will see it as a sideways step, as we are next to Liverpool in the table, but in truth, its not. We are a recently promoted club, who is doing far better than we ever expected this year. Sure, we look like we are heading in the right direction, but we still are a newly promoted club. Liverpool, despite Rafa and Hodgson's best efforts, are still a massive club, they now have the money to back themselves and WILL push for europe. They can offer Carroll the chance to play with the likes of Gerrard and now Suarez, which is a step up from Nolan(despite how much I love him) and Ameobi.

If people say 'its all about the money', ofcourse it is! Carroll has been called up to England whilst playing for Newcastle, his England ambitions would never faulter here. But come on.....at the end of the day, its still a job to them. If you were 22, playing a sport you loved for 30k a week, you would be thrilled. If someone came along and could treble that and put you with dare I say it, better players, as a proffessional you would be crazy to turn it down. Yeah its crap, but its the way of the world Im afraid. 30k a week will set him up for life, 90k a week - it will give him a life of untold luxury.

All Carroll has done is tarnish whatever rapore he has built with us Toon faithful. He has made a mockery of his 'importance' in regards to the Number 9 jersey he so eagerly coveted, and for that, he will not be forgiven. Making statements of wanting to emulate Shearer etc were a bit naive if he knew he would jump at the first big money deal. The grass may be greener in a money sense, but its not always on the field. Other names who have sparkled young and in their debut season, only to make big money moves and lose their 'next big thing' title include - Kevin Phillips, Michael Ricketts, Francis Jeffers, Marcus Stewart to name a few.

Personally, I think Carroll will fulfill his potential, and will become a great player. Im gutted he wont realise it with us now, but lets face it, once he handed in a transfer request, that was it. The unity in our squad is our strong point, and if someone has been phoning in fake passion for the cause and wants to leave, then bye bye. Thanks for your efforts, and thanks even more for the £35 million which you may be worth one day, but nowhere near at the moment.

Hopefully, all though its unlikely, we get a £30 million warchest for the summer. I think we have enough about us to stay up still, and quite comfortably, and hopefully we build in the summer. Everton sold Rooney for alot, replaced him with 3 or 4 players and hit 4th the following year. One man didnt make this team, and if they did, it wasnt Carroll. Barton, Nolan, Enrique, Tiote and Colo are all more valuable to us than he was. Also, you never know, maybe all the off field problems made him want to make a fresh start? Those things we cant tell, and will probably never know.

Our best striker may have left, and maybe under a black cloud. But he can take it with him, because although he may have been a big part of this team, this team is still standing without him. And with players like Barton and Nolan truly willing to give their all, we will move on.

We survived life after Shearer.....we will DEFINATLY survive life after Carroll.

    HOWAY THE LADS!!

yeah but you cant say is about the wages, we were fully prepared to offer him 80k a week in my opinion.

i agree with everything you say but rooney was younger than carrol and not the centre of thier team, carrol was.

yes we will survive with him if nolan can score 25 goals this season

30m war chest, i think it will be more like 15m

Liverpool don't have that much quality and have only really brought in the one striker Carroll who has some premier league experience, their other buy in today is totally unproven, I remember all the fuss about Dirk Kyutt but he has hardly shaped up as a top scorer, also an article I read this weekend suggested that Torres wanted out because he could not see Liverpool improving much and little chance of winning major trophies. There is also still many questions to be answered in the long run about the current owners, they certainly don't have the money to make further buys like this and in reality would not have been able to make them without selling Torres to Chelsea, as well as this Dalgliesh's position is still only that of caretaker manager until the of the season. You have to hope that once the dust has settled that we can maintain our status in the Premier League and that Pardew is backed by Ashley with funds to allow further development of the squad as it is needed now that our brightest young star has jumped ship, I would love it if though we could finish above Liverpool this season.

The best and only thing we can do now is move on and keep up the good work.

Start preparing for next year- i think we've done enough so far to remain in the premier league next season
