http://www.sabotagetimes.com/footba...d-the-worst-xi-of-the-euro-2012-group-stages/ I realise I may be increasing his hits onto his web but f*** me, why do ppl write such crap? Johnson has played well
Johnson is an attacking RB; a Right wing back if you will forced to play into Hodgsons defensive system. Nonetheless he has done what has been expected of him: He has played quite well and at times he has been our only attacking option down the right (Milner has been invisible). However his defensive positioning has been dire, thus defensibly he has looked somewhat poor at times. If you wanted to play a stable defensive game with a static defense (Hodgsons way) then I am very surprised he has picked Johnson ahead of our other right back option Kelly. Please note as any Liverpool fan knows: when we played a more defensive formation in the league we actually played Kelly in-front of Johnson. Johnson has had an average tournament so far. He has been poor defensively (as always) but has offered us something on the right. Neither the best or worst player and saying "he is the worst RB so far throughout the tournament" is simply a stupid statement to make.
You make some good points but I disagree with "He has been poor defensively (as always)". He is not always poor defensively at all mate
Johnson's defending has improved dramatically since Rafa bought him. Hodgson's sytem will never get the best out of him. Geez, I thought we'd all figured that out by now. His attacking has been stifled by Milner being ordered to do the job he's doing, too, but at times he's been England's best defender.
What a surprise someone having a go at Johnson He's shown he's improved as a defender and if it wasn't for the totally clueless Milner he'd also show he's one of the best attacking full backs in Europe.
After the first 2 games, Johnson was being lauded as "England's best defender" And he wasn't too bad against Ukraine.
There were times I wasn't his greatest fan last year but you could say that about most of the squad. Look; it's the modern full back, no matter how fit they get they are being asked to be as much a part of attack as defence. The defensive application is always going to suffer slightly.as a result. Both him & Cole have had problems because their natural club roles are bring suppressed by Roy (not criticising Roys plans here) I think he's done a good job of what he's been asked to do. The prick that wrote that piece has issues obviously. Vision impairment being one of them.
err.. The author makes a massive contradiction So Milner has been defending Glen Johnson's constant stream of shaky errors but at the same time he has been anonymous.. Which is it? ******.
Anyone else really ****ing bored with talking about Glen Johnson...? Some of us like him, some don't. Get over it...
The author is a United fan. Looking at other articles he's done are entitled "United half term report - Phil Jones is our leader" and an article on Rooney's overhead kick which starts "A Manchester United Fan on why Rooney didn't deserve the goal of the year award". Is there any suprise that he is having a dig at a Liverpool player that is keeping his beloved leader, Phil Jones, out of the England team?
Milner is one of the reasons England have been hard to beat..he has effectively been playing on the wing but with a central midfielders mentality.....he does what Walcott cannot do and track back and go toe to toe. I dont see why he must be criticised in order to compliment Johnson as it is clear that with this instruction from Roy.Johnson will benefit as he gets support and cover if he goes on a forward blast. i think they are complimenting each other well.
I'm with Frank, never could understand why Johnston got picked ahead of Kelly, but Steve Clarke has worked wonders with him, and now I'm not too concerned that he gets picked ahead of Kelly.
Jesus, you scousers are a bunch of delicate flowers aren't you? The guys opinion is just as valid as yours, get over it. Not surprising to see accusations of him being an embittered united fan...
Not really mate, when you write something like this you have to be unbiased and the **** he comes out with about Johnson is just utter bollocks
No surprise then at all that yet another manc - YOU - has to come on our board to defend him . Look up "hypocrisy".
I could say that Utd's success over the last twenty years was entirely undeserved, that it is the result of a conspiracy between the CIA and aliens to fill the world with brain-dead Utd supporters. That would be my opinion, and by your logic I would be perfectly entitled to express it. Well, that may be so, but then you would be entitled to call it the crock of ****e that it is. If this guy has the right to talk a load of bollocks, then we have the right to respond to it.
Attacking fullbacks are hugely misunderstood and under-appreciated by some in this country. I happen to think Milner is a decent player, however his inability to attack effectively from the wing can really harm Glen's ability to be a threat when he goes forward as well. The idea with an attacking full back is that the winger is the main focus for the defense and pulls defenders out of position when not in possession of the ball so that the opposing team is unsure of of how to defend against the fullback attacking from deep. It also means that the attacking player is likely to be facing the defence they are attacking rather than a winger of inside forward receiving the ball back to goal. Since Milner doesn't provide a threat it makes the opposition's job of dealing with Glen much easier and there are less crosses, assists and goals to cover up... the fact that Johnson's defensive abilities are underrated. His stats stack up against any full back in the league this year and yet he is better going forward. For England unfortunately he has the hindrance of playing next to John terry who was slow before his fractured ribs or whatever injury he is carrying that makes him seem to run through treacle. Johnson will therefore always seem to be out of position.
^ This guy is a cabbage in a plastic bag, pay him no mind. Johnson has been better than he has been for ages defending. england effectively played 9 players by fielding Young and Milner
Uniteds success is not equivalent to johnsons form over three games, so please pull your head out of your arse. You pool fans just love a good whine.
