Vice-Chairman insists Five Pillars strategy still key to City progress. please log in to view this image Sean O’Driscoll’s departure does not alter City’s vision for the future, according to Jon Lansdown. The club has been keen to spread its message of how the Five Pillars strategy holds the key to the Robins’ long-term progression. The Vice-Chairman insists Academy, recruitment, community, facilities and financial prudence will remain at the backbone of future discussions when speaking to O’Driscoll’s potential successor, but refused to be drawn on a timescale for making the appointment. “It’s a difficult one because a lot of people are behind what we’re doing and see Sean as the man who has helped to lead that,” Lansdown told City’s official YouTube channel. “I have to be clear that the strategy doesn’t change – it is a club strategy, one we will continue to implement and a very important factor in whoever becomes the new head coach. “They will need to buy fully into the strategy of this Football Club – Academy, community and player recruitment is all vital and that doesn’t change. “The only thing that could take longer is finding someone who is a definite fit for the Football Club. We will be going down the same path, just hopefully with some better results on the pitch.” Lansdown confirmed first team coach John Pemberton will take charge of Saturday’s Sky Bet League One fixture at Preston North End (3pm), and says he has no plans for further staff changes behind the scenes. “They are club staff,” he explained. “The whole point of having a head coach and a structure of the club is that the head coach takes the first team. His job is to get results on the pitch. “The rest of what we have in place we’re happy with. We’d like to keep as much of that as possible, ideally there won’t be any changes. We’re just putting one person in place to head up that first team.” The lifelong City supporter is now seeking a new face to steer the club clear of the relegation places and bring the feel-good factor back to Ashton Gate. “We haven’t spoken to anyone yet but we’ll get on the case as quickly as possible,” Lansdown continued. “We’re looking for someone who can inject some passion into the place and get people back here enjoying the football again. “The way you do that is by getting results on the pitch. We’re looking for someone who is going to be successful with this football club – you always are. “We’ll be giving them all the backing we can to help bring that to fruition. “We’re not going to make any rushed decisions. If we find someone in three days, great. If it takes three weeks, so be it. It’s got to be the right man to fit the strategy.” http://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/article/20131128-lansdownplanremains-1202171.aspx
It has to. We need someone who is going to come in, understand what is being done and unlike SOD win games as well. Was on sky sports earlier SOD only won 25% of his games.... and to think we wanted Millens head on a stick for his 32%..... I still haven't got a clue who I want though. Will probably take a few days for the real names to come out, You can usually tell after a while who the real contenders are.
Utterly clueless board. JL and co honestly have no clue No doubt they'll appoint some tit like Michael appleton
F**k OFF WITH YOUR FIVE PILLARS NONSENSE!!!!!!!!! Every club in the land wants to run their club in the exact same fashion, why do they keep harping on about it, like they have discovered the key to a successful, sustainable football club. You need a lot more than 5 pillars for a start, you need about 20! It's embarrassing to hear him keep talking about it, makes us look like a bunch of amateurs!
Sounds like they want a Yes Man. I might pop down to Ashton Gate at some point, say that I like nice football, good academies, and frugality, and they'll probably hand me the job.
I hope they make it 6 pillars..........we will need a good strong pillar to mount the new revolving door on the managers office...
More mumbo-jumbo from the top and I wonder if yet another poor sod (excuse the choice of word) is going to fall in to the same trap as our previous leaders clearly did? Message to JL - Get it right and let our new on-field leader do their job without any hindrance or bullshit because surely the time has come for sanity to reappear at Bristol City!
Mike please enlighten me what would you want to see different? Sack the board? Replace with who? Chuck a shed load of cash into the team? And get fined by the FA and a transfer embargo. Spend wisely and protect the future of the club? At this moment they have sacked one of the statistically worse manger in history, got approval on redevelopment of AG. It's your chance to enlighten us what is it you want?
I really wish I could answer your question ROD but I can't but only because all the possible solutions have already been used and we are on our last chance. Throwing money at the team didn't work but I think that sad fact can be excused on the basis of stupidity ruling the roost. How on earth can you spend that kind of money to take us to our current place without obvious misspending of an epic proportion? Surely they need to install someone who has the footballing brain to not only take over the managerial reins but also inspire the players to achieve at a higher level than the current poor performances. How can you find such a person, well that is the question of the century, but surely they must have contacts out there who can offer advice and mentorship rather than just continuing to travel down the road that is leading to nowhere. Our hiring of competent and successful managers is non-existent and let's hope that this time cooler and more informed heads take control and we bring someone in who can earn the respect of the beleaguered supporters, like yourself, and also inspire the players to want to go out and perform for everything that is Bristol City. Does anybody have the answers to what is a difficult situation and will we find that person? Doubtful, but we can but hope can't we????
Mike I believe part of the answer to the questions you are asking are explained here in this JL article, SOD has gone because he was the weak link...
It has taken too long for the board to admit that SO'D was the weak link. A football manager needs to have some visible passion; carefully scripted programme notes an written words are all very well but anyone in a highly visible job like football manager must be able to motivate everyone connected with the Club. SO'D may be a very good technical coach but lacks the charisma to get his players to put in 110% performances and just as importantly to give supporters some visible signs of passion. He just sent us to sleep. He also appears to have been too immersed in ways to stop the opposition rather than making sure that they worried about us. We need the next Head Coach to be not only a good coach and tactician, but also a leader of the Clan. Who will be the next Alan Dicks or Terry Cooper? Where is our Wenger, Shankly, Ferguson, McMenemy, Clough?
