According to the verious papers & web sites we are putting in a 7.5 million quid bid for Shane Long & SGE asked EH to join LC & he said maybe next season. 7.5 for Shane Long ? top player & a 20+ goal man if I´ve ever saw 1. Rather him than Maynard imo "COME ON LEICESTER, COME ON LEICESTER"
I personally think Long is the new Kevin Doyle. I reckon thats a bargain for 7m for a goalscorer and hardworker. Get 'im Svennis
I would prefer Maynard to Long as I think Maynard as a little more magic and the unpredicability factor about him. Lets sign Long now and try and pick Maynard up in January for peanuts. Shane Long is hardworking and scores goals, last season it was his best season but I still think 7M+ is too much but thats the position we are in now. I wouldnt mind us taking Jimmy Kebe aswell, that way we would of stripped another strong team of their 3 best players. Mills, Kebe and Long
I really hope we don't sign him for that kind of money, it's ridiculous and there is no way he is worth that. He's had ONE good season scoring 23 in the league but before that since 2005 he only scored 21 in total. How does scoring 44 goals in 5 seasons make him worth £7m, get real!! If we're prepared to spend that much why not throw it at BCFC, there is no way they'd turn that down!!
Because if we pay BCFC the ridiculous valuation of £5.5M + then it sends out two big messages: 1) That if clubs hold on long enough then we will just cave in to there requests 2) Every club can inflate the valuations of their players when doing business with us. The thing about Shlong is that Reading have always valued him at around £8M which is why WH made a close bid. If we had our £7.5M bid accepted then we are paying no more than what the football market believes he is worth. I didn’t see any of CCC wanting to pay £5.5M+ for Maynard
Right Maynard wont sign a new deal, Bristol will sell him if he dont, we are the only team interested. Prem teams think he cost to much to gamble on him and other championship sides cant afford him
If we're prepared to spend that much though why didn't we just offer more than £5.5m to BCFC to start with rather than going through all this waiting, will he won't he bollocks. I agree that £5.5m is a ridiculous valuation but it's not as ridiculous as £8.5m for Long, who before this season did fvck all, in 4 seasons!!
Right as we getting close to the season starting today i would offer Bristol 6M and Reading 7.5M and say they have until the end of the day to decide on them offer or we will withdraw both the offers and our interest
I agree with arrofox. Why are we paying 7.5 mil on long when we can get maynard cheaper? Either signing upfront is ofcorse a big step
Reading manager said ''When asked about Eriksson’s interest in the 24-year-old, he replied: “They’re interested in every player, so there’s no news there.” made me chuckle
If we do offer 5.5M for Maynard and it does get accepted he will have to go through a medical and if they didnt think his body was up to it we will just pull the plug or try and get the price reduced.
The thing with these price tags is that they're all relative to performance. It's all well and good saying he's overpriced and we shouldn't go near him but if Long scores the goals that get us promotion and £90 million+ then it'll be £7 million well spent. So it comes down to whether it's worth the gamble and I'd say yes we should go for him and take that risk because another striker is needed in my opinion and this is one who's proven to score at Championship level. And for those who say he's had one good season only, well Maynard has only scored 20+ goals once in the Championship as well and in both their 'big' seasons, Long scored more than Maynard. As for Sven not going back in for Maynard, maybe Sven rates Long higher but only went for Maynard first because he would have been cheaper but now thinks it's worth spending the extra money to get the better player?
Agreed Maynard, Long and Jerome, all 24y/old all ready to now prove they can walk the walk after doing reasonably well in the younger years, this should be the big move for each of them? they will sign a contract which will effectivly take them into their peak years at the club they choose to move to. I think all three have potential, but I think my preference would be Jerome, although it is difficult!
