Neil Warnock's blunt reply to Lee Johnson as Cardiff City boss brands Bristol City 'long-ball merchants'
The Bluebirds boss had things to say about Bristol City, the head coach, Steve Lansdown and more ahead the Severnside derby game

Neil Warnock has responded to Lee Johnson’s recent comments about Cardiff City – with the Bluebirds boss labelling Bristol City as “long ball merchants” ahead of Sunday’s Severnside derby clash.

The Cardiff City Stadium will host the match in the Sky Bet Championship and Johnson had words to say about the ground earlier this week.

"I'll be honest with you I'm not sure the atmosphere is that intimidating at Cardiff,” Johnson said. “If it's a big stadium from all the games I see and when I've been there a couple of times there's quite a few empty seats. And that's surprising given the season they've had.”

Johnson also went on to chat about Warnock’s philosophy, and the former QPR, Crystal Palace and Leeds United boss has hit back – as expected.

“You know, Lee (Johnson) is like his dad. He talks a good game and I don’t listen too much he says. I’m sure it will be a decent atmosphere, we’ll try and do our best for him,” the Cardiff boss replied.

The Robins ran out winners the last time the two sides met at Ashton Gate thanks to goals from Callum O’Dowda and Aden Flint.

Johnson’s side are sitting sixth in the league with only one win from the last 12, while Cardiff are second and undefeated in the last five games.
Warnock also touched on Johnson’s relationship with owner Steve Lansdown and the past few games against the side from Bristol.

    Lee Johnson

He said: “I’ll be very surprised if they don’t play long ball on Sunday, the last two times we’ve played them, and they’ve been the long ball merchants.

“You’re always learning as a young manager and you look back on your bad times. You’ve got to have bad times so you can learn from them and Lee will look back on last season.

“The main thing for a young manager is to have a good chairman and Lee, well, he’s won the pools really with Steve Lansdown.”

All 1,481 tickets have been sold for the away side’s allocation this weekend and it is expected to be a good encounter between the two sides.

Aden Flint of Bristol City scores to make it 2-1 against Cardiff

When asked about the fan support, Warnock added: “Oh, good. I like that. If I had my way, they would probably get 400.
“But it does make for a good derby when you get the opposition in their numbers. When we went to Bristol, I thought our fans were fabulous, even when we had 10 men.

“They rallied us on and we ended up being the better team in the end of second half. But that’s what derbies are about, a bit of hot air, things being shouted.”

Mr Warnock is very complimentary about Steve Lansdown “The main thing for a young manager is to have a good chairman and Lee, well, he’s won the pools really with Steve Lansdown.” But if he had had his way only 400 of our fans would have been allowed to attend the game "When asked about the fan support, Warnock added: “Oh, good. I like that. If I had my way, they would probably get 400."

    Complicated character.

Sparky has put up link to this on the Cardiff banter thread (Good idea <ok>), I've also added a Cardiff pre - match preview if you want to catch up with the Cardiff business that's where it's at and all other Cardiff business will also be included on there. <laugh><ok>

This keeps all Cardiff banter nice and compact on the one thread - we hope.
