Agreed. Experienced Championship player. Think he just hit a bad patch last year and lost a bit of confidence, didn't stop PL teams chasing him though and hopefully he just needs a fresh start.
The scapegoat for Leeds Uniteds defence was Kasper Schemichal conceding 70 goals in the league. Garyson and Bates said he wasnt good enough and they had already planned to replace him........... so in comes one Andy Lonergan who conceded 79 goals last season. Lets hope the Preston manager was blaming his defence..........
But Lonergan was the only 'keeper playing behind a defence worse than ours. Kasper was, let's face it, an arrogant so and so who didn't inspire any confidence in the players in front of him. He did win us many games with his saves but I feel he lost us just as many with his mistakes. Lonergan is, in my opinion, an improvement and Rachubka looks like providing good competition unlike Higgs. Much more confident about the defence this season, now let's see what happens with the midfield.
I think this is a great signing. He was Preston's player of the year in 2009 and 2010. I think Preston really under achieved last season, they had some good defenders like St. Ledger who has joined Leicester, so I think it doesn't really matter that he was relegated last season. He's been linked with moves to Prem clubs and was an under 21 international. If you take all this into account, it just seems like he had a poor season last year, but is a good keeper. He should be a more reliable keeper than Kasper anyway, and Rachubka has seemed decent as well. Our defence has definitely improved from last season. Kisnorbo is back, Parker could get fit for the start of the season, AOB seemed better in the last few games of the season, Tom Lees is also an option and we have better goalkeepers.
I think it is an okay signing, we needed a keeper after selling Kasper and now we have one. I agree with previous comments regarding blaming Kasper for the leaky defence and signing a keeper who let in even more goals. The whole Keeper situation has been handled poorly by Leeds Utd, it was a farce and a disgrace from start to finish so now it is time to draw a line under it all and hope we sign a couple more players before the season starts. A new keeper and a defensive midfielder is only 50% of the bare minimum that we need, if this Mendez works out and we get Lichaj then I would say we are on par with last season, slightly better with the return on Kisnorbo and the emergence of Nunez and that is also assuming Bechio isn't out for too long and we hold on to Gradel...
I think Leicester win this war. Kasper is twice the goalkeeper of Lonergan, plus he has many years still to play Thanks Ken, we love you <3
How much have you seen Kasper play? Believe me you will be very disappointed before too long. Kasper's an arrogant **** who thinks he's god's gift because of who his dad is and the fact he's made a couple of good saves on telly, nevermind the number of mistakes he's made that cost us games. You're welcome to each other .
Weve gone from having a good prodigy keepr sold for peanuts, and a average championship keeper, into two average keepers, no improvement no loss imo, Shda sold Kasper for more money tho. Need a center forward on loan until are goalscorers come back and two defenders
i've almost agreed with you for once QSS, this has to be a first. I think we coulda got more money for kasper than we did, its not really an improvement on kasper and yes we do need a forward on loan imo to cover for becchio's and somma's injuries. I dont think we NEED two defenders, i think a LB is a must and if we get another one i can only imagine it would be lichaj for RB but i dont think thats a must. i do think we still need a CM though as number 1 priority now
It's too early yet to tell whether Lonergan is any better or worse than Schmeichel ability-wise, but I think we can pretty much take it for granted that he will have a better attitude and get on better with the back 4 and the rest of the lads. I have a feeling Kasper's attitude was, and will be, his biggest problem and will prevent him playing above lower PL.
I dont know that kasper's attitude was as bad as everyone says, his control of the back four was obviously in question but i do think keepers need to have a certain ego and confidence which maybe he was a little over the top about but he was a young keeper that we could've moulded to our style. lonergan doesn't seem to be a bad keeper or a bad signing but im still a little bit dissapointed to let him go And clive i dont see why i should have a problem with grayson's attitude but i do have a massive problem with your attitude, you just turn every thread you comment on into a thread about simon grayson's ability to manage a club, change the look man seriously. But out of interest, when did you first decide that grayson was not good enough, was it when he got us promoted from league 1 when no else could or was it when we beat teh mancs at old trafford, or was when, despite not spending much money at all, challenging for a play-off spot
I don't know where this supposed attitude problem has come from either. I think it's just people making stuff up to convince themselves that it was a good decision to sell him. Grayson is relevant to most threads as he's the manager of the club. There is no evidence to suggest that Kasper has an attitude problem but there is plenty to suggest Grayson does. He treats players really badly, lies to the fans, constantly tries to justify himself and refuses to accept any responsibility for anything. I never thought Grayson would be good enough, but I first realised just how bad he was when he went full strength in the JPT against Carlisle.
To replace who, Howson or Brown who has just been signed?? Grayson thinks very highly of Brown if fit he will start every match, probably with Howson alongside him. We then have Gradel, Snodgrass and Nunez so why on earth do you think priority is a CM???
Re Kasper's attitude I think someone put that forward as a way of lessening the blow of losing him & everyone jumped on the bandwagon. It was a good move by the club letting him go as he isn't all that ability wise but to suggest it was because of his ego is rubbish. He's no different from other players in that respect,99.9% of them are big-headed egotistical twats so he's no different.
Josh we don't need a CM so I agree with Ristac. Out & out goalscorer is an absolute must,or at least a striker of some quality as we're very short of options up front.
