On a 3 year deal. In no way is this an attempt by me to resurrect the Lonergan/Schmeichel debate (But it inevitably will, enjoy)
We missed a trick there We could have sold Kasper made a tidy profit and got the better keeper in Lonergan for as cheap as chips
Seems to be the thing Leeds do, get great goalkeepers and then sell them on to expand Bates' pockets. Holding onto you best players isn't in his vocabulary, its more like hold onto enough talent not to get relegated.
no doubt ipswitch will get promoted now, cant see them conceeding after what the leeds fas said. Given how much better he is than kasper i cant see how a bigger club hasnt come in for him.
aha sorry, i got my nicknames mixed up- very embarrassing there!! Still, what a signing. Odds slashed to 1/2 favourites now i presume??
Breaking news: The Football League have just made all matches of this season's Championship null and void after Bolton announced the signings of Matt mills and Andy Lonergan, saying "it is not fair on the rest of the division". Bolton will now play in the Premier League next season but will be given a 10 handicap to help the other teams compete More to follow...
Lonergan is crap though. I remember the other year when Gally smashed a volley over his head and into the net from 60 yards
It was intended as a linear flowchart, not a series of greater-than-signs to denote mathematical inequality.
Had you not seen any of last seasons Match of the Days? Kenny was beyond ****. If he re-finds his form from QPR's promotion season then you'll have a decent keeper. But to say that Schmeichel and Lonergan are both worse is a bit of a joke.
We're not in the Premier League next season. Last time he was in the Championship, he was the Champions' Player of the Season and kept a record number of clean sheets for them. Why should it be any different this time? Warnock is already strengthening our defence pretty nicely. If that's not an improvement on mid-table no-marks Lonergan and Schmeichel, I don't know what is.
This thing is with goalkeepers it really doesnt matter what divison you play in as everything is the same. Yeah the higher up the leagues you go the players will hit the ball a bit harder and place it better into the corners but if your a good shot stopper you will save shots in any league. Same with taking crosses, if you can catch you can catch, higher up the league you go the ball will be put in more dangerous areas and swung in better but again if you good enough your good enough Goalkeeping is such a unique position compared to any other on the pitch
The gap is not as big for goalkeepers as it is for out field players. His confidence will be shot, we'll see.
People said Lonergan's confidence would be shot after a season of atrocity with Preston, having been supplanted by 'Who The Fuck Is' Iain Turner. He came to Leeds and was a revelation in the first half of the season. So the motivation argument doesn't ring true. After a good pre-season and decent bonding with the new defence, Kenny should be as good as new. He looks like he has the experience and grit to carry that consistency over the course of a season as well judging by his past form, unlike our last four keepers. Not to mention we have a new and improved backroom staff now. And I think strikers can be compared with keepers to an extent. Gaps in division can easily be bridged by good strikers.
