It is political though, the residents want answers. and rightly so.

How do you or anyone else know the cause was political , it could be corruption , looking the other way , using substandard materials that were incorrectly installed , lack of controls , incompetent contractors even more incompetent building inspectors . Let the authorities do their job to discover why and how this happened then everyone get on with their point scoring. But one thing you can bet your house on , someone somewhere will say "lessons will be learnt" repeatedly

Because who decides building regulation standards. The problem is if the cladding meets the lax building standards then it would be extremely difficult to prosecute the contractor.

There are other political questions that need to be raised as well, why was their concerns ignored, funding for emergency services and the reason why the cladding was put up in the first place.

True.......

Take a look at @Yorkshireman101's Tweet:

There we are - the pathetic political point scoring begins. No one has suggested funding for emergency services had any effect on this. If you want to play point scoring perhaps you could consider the last Labour governments awful record on building new social housing to replace old deathtrap tower blocks.

I'm pissed off with this petty points scoring, you could swear that Teressa May built the bloody building. Nobody knows who to blame yet until the fire service do their investigations.

Cladding is being put up to reduce the buildings carbon footprint. This is part to reduce our carbon omissions to meet our UK obligations as part of the Koyoto agreement.

can't the same questions be asked about the 7 year Tory rule?

Also calling politicising this as pathetic is no different form politicising terror attacks. If the cause can be correlated to political decisions then questions should be asked.

No the cladding is put up to reduce running costs. Same as me snd you putting in double glazing and cavity wall insulation, to save running costs.

That's not the only reason, cladding – a low-cost way of improving the front of the building – was chosen in part so that the tower would look better when seen from the conservation areas and luxury flats that surround north Kensington, according to planning documents, as well as to insulate it.

Being pedantic now aren't we. Cladding does two jobs. <doh>

It's not being pedantic, it's stating what's in the planning documents. Do you honestly believe that the council acted solely because of carbon reduction measures. They've scrapped nearly all carbon reduction methods such as green deal.

I totally agree with James o'Brien on this matter.

I also agree completely with O'Brian, he has hit the nail on the head, the treatment of the lower class in this country, by the ruling elite has been a disgrace for far too long, some of us have mitigated against this with our own career paths and choices or just good fortune, but that still does not alter the status quo, and what has happened here is as a direct result of the political elite attitude, that permeates through many Government departments.

the one glimmer of hope is that the Met will be looking at corporate manslaughter charges, as they proceed with criminal investigations of who are culpable for dismissing the concerns of the residence of Grenfell Tower.

And that cladding – a low-cost way of improving the front of the building – was chosen in part so that the tower would look better when seen from the conservation areas and luxury flats that surround north Kensington, according to planning documents, as well as to insulate it. This is what I thought was probably behind the cheap plastic tarting up of the old tower block, with no concern whatsoever on the safety of the tenants, and the only thing I can say is that this is completely unforgivable, given that so many issues regarding safety was raised by the community, only to be swept aside by the arrogance of Kensington local authority, no wonder Kensington lost their Tory seat.

It's Political all right, if you think otherwise then you need to self examine what planet you reside on............<ok>

Further can I also just say that the Building regs in England and Wales are woefully inadequate. It is of benefit to the developers and councils as it makes it cheaper to build. It's a complete and utter disgrace. In Scotland you would not get away with no fire alarms, no stair emergency lighting & only one stair case for all of these residents - no fire escape.

For Thereas May the PM to say that 'if lessons are to be learned' If lessons are to be learned? They haven't been and they won't be until people are prosecuted and Building regulations & Fire safety Regulations are brought up to modern standards that are designed to protect the occupiers and not necessarily the owners of the buildings. Theresa May also said that there will be a Full Enquiry. I didn't realise that they did half enquiries, or quarter enquiries. The woman is an offence to the electorate, an offence to the ear. Has she no humanity?

Where the hell did we get this truly awful woman from?

So in essence then, the rich neighbours and Torry council didn't like the sight of the building where poor people lived and decided to wrap the building with a very flammable pretty looking matchbox to fit in with the grandiose scenery. Once all the anger is absorbed, everything will be whitewashed in a few years, and only the forgotten people who lost loved ones will continue feeling the pain while the media finds another tragic story for their headlines.

The profit margin for multi-million pound developments is always haggled down by public authorities to about 2%, as constructors undercut each other to win these shoestring projects. Contracts dictate that any delays mean profit margins are obliterated. I mean, come on, 2%? Who in their right minds would be prepared to commit to huge and potentially bankrupting projects for a margin like that? We get what we pay for. It's time we started coughing up for safe housing. Let's get our priorities straight. This country is becoming a money-grubbing backwater where people are seen as expendable.

It's shameful to see such a tragedy in a modern, 21st century capital city.
