It is terrible and always thought these tower blocks were death traps. But for all that cant remember another like this it is a tragedy. Apparently the work done at Clyne court in Sketty Park is clad in exactly the same materials that burnt so quickly in London and it is supposed to be fire ******ant.

Criminal proceedings must follow after this cost cutting shambles and the government must act now and demolish all tower blocks above 10 stories as death traps and whoever sanctioned the cosmetic cladding should also face manslaughter charges......You should be safe in your flat in theory but cutting costs not putting sprinklers and automatic fire doors and using cheap plastic cladding put these tower blocks into death traps...heads must roll....

All I hope that the contractor doing the cladding has used the materials specified and the meet current building standards.

At the moment you can here the contractors and building control offices checking the paperwork because if they have cocked up, someone is going down for corporate manslaughter.

All tower blocks are predominantly concrete skeletons with a cladding facade, all new high risers in London are done this way. I was in a partially constructed tower on Monday and they were putting this cladding on it and were up 49 floors.

This is truly horrifying. I was at a London Council for meetings today, the feeling is that as it was a recent refurb the work will have conformed to Building regs but the issue is the regs are so weak! How can you have such a building with no sprinklers, fire alarm etc and just rely on individual apartments having a personal smoke alarm.

I'm amazed that there was no sprinkler system installed having gone through a 10m refurbishment.

Absolutely Dai, but just watch the great 'British Cover-up' go into action.................<ok>

The contractor who has done the work in these Tower blocks are in the clear because the council and the fire brigade passed the cladding fit to use and inspected the job when done and passed it.....It was the resident committee who were not happy and said it will take a fire for them to listen......Heads must roll in the FB inspectors and those who approved the work. and the Tory party for the cuts to council funds that enabled the council to make cheap options....

Pretty crass comments there , but I agree that who ever is culpable should be prosecuted .

Looking at images of the building on the news this morning I find it incredible that it is still standing.
