Seems there's a slim chance Remy will come back to us....

Newcastle United are trying to land five new signings and have not given up on loan star Loic Remy, who has returned from Brazil to uncertain future

Newcastle United's Loic Remy celebrates after scoring his side's second goal against Cardiff City

Newcastle United are ready to mount a fresh bid to re-sign Loic Remy – after re-initiating talks with priority target Remy Cabella.

United were always aware that Remy would shop around in the summer but his lack of involvement in the World Cup could have dented his ambitions of landing Champions League football, and Newcastle feel they can make a case for him to come back to Tyneside.

There have been talks between Remy’s advisers and United since the end of the season and he has not been able to agree personal terms with Arsenal, who are also interested, or Spurs. Unlike those two clubs Newcastle are ready to stump up QPR’s asking fee and meet Remy’s personal terms – plus hand him the frontline striking role that he craves as a path into the France first-team reckoning in time for Euro 2016.

There was a minor disagreement after the season when Remy appeared to suggest that boss Alan Pardew had allowed him to skip the final day of the season at Anfield, but Newcastle do not believe that would hinder to a permanent move.

Indeed their biggest concern at the moment is that Remy might prefer to live in the capital – and may even chose to stay with QPR, promoted to the Premier League since the striker left on a season-long loan.

Arsenal remain a danger to Newcastle’s moves but a deal there has been held up. There is refreshed optimism in Newcastle’s recruitment drive but negotiations remain hard-fought.

Newcastle are locked in talks with Montpellier over Cabella but hope a new bid of nearer £10m will persuade the Ligue 1 club to sell a player whose representatives have been adamant that he is keen to move to the North East after a glowing testimonial from Yohan Cabaye.

United want further new faces on board in time for the pre-season New Zealand trip and are aiming to sign TWO strikers to add to their threadbare strikeforce of Ayoze Perez, an injured Papiss Cisse and young gun Adam Campbell.

They have a long-standing interest in Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette but like Clement Grenier, there are complications in both of those deals.

I'm thinking that £10million bid wasn't for Remy Cabella, it was for Remy and Cabella. Mike thinks £5million for each is a fair offer.

He chose qpr over us, was quick to want to sod off when thought he was wanted elsewhere..and the sad thing is I'd still take him as we are desperate. This is all probably news planted by agent to get some deals moving though, I'd imagine.

Our Chairman tweeted the other day "Don't believe what you hear about us getting rid of our good players. We have some World class players". Then he posted a picture of Remy and wrote underneath "One of our World class players". The fans have taken that to mean he might have persuaded him to stay.

I don't buy it personally. He said he wanted CL football so if Wenger really wants him then that's where he'll probably be headed.

There's enough Frenchy's there already so he'll fit right in!

I think the time has come to relax with the financial morality.

Most footballers at the top level are mercenary and i'm sure 'looking after your own interests' in something we've all done at some point.

    Come on back, Loic :)

I think Remy is worth more than that. Fully fit he's a 15-20 goals a season striker, and he can play on the wing. He's versatile, can pass and score. He changes the flow of a team sometimes.

He's worth at least 8-9m. If we can get him for 5 that would be great, but I highly doubt it.

He's quite a bit of a mercenary, but most players are. He was a merc while playing for us, but I think the fans warmed his soul a little bit, and if he scores goals then who cares?

I'd take a merc who scores 1 in 2/2.5 any day of the week.

I think Remy can say goodbye to his Arsenal dream following the signing of Sanchez. Looks like he's not as wanted as first thought so you never know, Pardew could just be desperate enough.
He was also supposed to be looking at Enner Valencia from Ecuador. Well if he's serious they'd better bid more than £12m as that's the figure West Ham have apparently bid for him. Think that price rules us out as Ca$hley will want 2 or 3 players for that.

Remy is top top class. I'd have him back.

He's a QPR player and didn't owe us loyalty last year

Won't be going anywhere for 5. His release clause is 8 and if no-one wants to pay that he'll be staying with us. Said in the paper today that Arsenal have walked away because they couldn't match his wages. You think that's mad? AC Milan who had Adel Taarabt on loan last season have tried to sign him permanently but also can't match QPR's wages!

It'd be funny if it wasn't so ludicrous

I'd take him, beggars can't be choosers. No loyalty but he is not alone there.

Its one thing I can never work out. You have someone like HBA, completely unprofessional, shows no sense of loyalty to the club getting fat etc, doesn't perform, but retains the fans support. Then you have Remy, a tad unprofessional at the end of the season, but performs and always rocks up in shape, yet he is a mercenary? Who is the one taking money without putting in the effort? Players will always use clubs, I don't mind as that is modern football, as long as they perform.

I do think Demba is a better mercenary mind.

You're full of ****. Getting fat? He wasn't fat but if he was so ****? Mick Quinn was like a house end did you cry every time he hit the net? Didn't perform when? In the odd 15 mins he's given here and there? When we finished 5th he was a huge part of that.

Now now settle down princess. He wasn't fat? <laugh><laugh> I'd head for specsavers mate.

Of course it matters what shape you're in. Its comical to suggest otherwise. It undoubtedly holds him back as well as his appalling attitude and schoolyard style. He played his part in the run to 5th no doubt in that. Was extremely managed to drag the motivation out of him if I remember rightly. Certainly was good but can't live in the past.

Mick Quinn - I think he played at a different time when players weren't quite so athletic. He would have been lucky to play League 2 nowadays.

HBA has had plenty chances. Been turd overall in last couple of seasons. Needs to sort his **** out but I'd sell him pronto. Unfortunately other clubs have no interest in his type hence we get no offers. Marseille and Lyon couldn't wait to get shot. We're seeing why. Shame because he has bundles of talent. Unmanageable though.

Aye tash, like I say it would be a bit galling but once he started scoring its less so, for better or worse. debuchy was my favourite player last season and he's quick to shoot off an all. Just the way it goes like you say. Remy on top of this new look attack were hopefully building would look slick..still think this is just agents planting stories though

This one isn't happening. I guess we'll have to settle for Lukaku then...
