Taylor has come in for some criticism lately due to his failure of scoreing goals. But im seeing players/staff come out and publicly back him. The latest is Tom Lockyer. Here is what he has to say.... Lockyer is backing "top player" Matty Taylor to hit the goals trail after his confidence-boosting strike that helped Bristol Rovers salvage a point against Kidderminster Harriers at the weekend. Taylor responded to being dropped from the starting line-up by coming off the bench to score an 83rd-minute equaliser â his fifth goal since arriving from Forest Green Rovers over the summer. Despite a failure to find the net on a consistent basis, Taylor had continued to be a regular starter in Darrell Clarke's side for his contributions in terms of general all-round play, and Lockyer said: "Matty brings a lot to the team that goes unnoticed. I don't think I have played with a striker who runs so many channels and he also gets hold of the ball high up the pitch and makes it stick. Matty would have been disappointed not to start the game on Saturday, so he showed a lot of character to come off the bench to score the equaliser for us. I don't think you could have asked too much more of him. I was pleased that he got his goal and hope that he can kick on and score a few more now because, for me, he's a top player." Taylor's late intervention was carved out by a delightful ball off the boot of recent arrival Lyle Della-Verde, who was named man-of-the-match following an exciting performance when alternating between both wings. Lockyer, who started the game behind the on-loan Fulham youngster on Rovers' right-hand side, said: "He's a great lad to play with. It was quite easy for me to play behind him because the first thing he said was for me to give him the ball at every opportunity. He also didn't mind taking the ball in tight situations when he had a man at his back. Every time he gets it he's looking to try and do something positive, whether it be a cross or a shot. He is a player who can create something out of very little and it is great for the strikers because they can gamble with their runs in anticipation of a decent delivery into a good area."
I think Taylor's important to the team even if he doesn't get lots of goals. I reckon he'll be in the side even if Blissett or Goldberg are in the side...
