Wondered if anyone has recollections of a Hull Sunday League Under11 or 12 (Minor Boys’ League) team around 1966/67 Season that was called Endike Boys or Endike Athletic and was run by a guy off NHE? He scouted schools’ teams in the area. He drove a type of transit van of its time and we all piled in the back. Needless to say, as there were no seats, we had a ‘rocky’journey to away games, I think another lad that played in this team was also in my school (Endike) team and was called Peter Gibson. Any knowledge of this team or manager would be greatly appreciated.
I was at Endike in 1966 and played for the school teams under Fred Cowell, Duncan and Tidyman. The name Pete Gibson rings a bell. From memory the lads who did get trials for City boys from the school during that era and in that age group were Gordon Watkins, Phil Randle ( good cricketer too), Barry McCunnell. ( his brother was, possibly Mike ? was good too) Bri Bairstow, Fred Cooper and Billy Williams. The scout could have been Fred Ramsden and the only adult I knew who used to ferry us about had the surname King, his son being our goal keeper, Gary. Phil Randle's father may have been involved with another team in those days too. Long time ago.
Gordy had a bit of a fall before Xmas, not been good but he's picking up now. When you played with your mate who's a flying winger it's bloody sad to see them in a wheelchair
Just had a look on the website and didn't realize just how few people play football these days . Only 40 odd teams left . Whatever happened ? I remember over 200 teams in the 80/90s
The various 5/6 aside facilities around now that provide a more convenient kick about experience maybe?
Surely that can't be the Sunday League can it???? There must have been about 20 divisions when I was playing back in the sixties!
Strippers and bingo on a Sunday in chalk lane club The stripper would often get booed off to get the bingo or meat raffle on
When I last played, circa turn of the century, there were 20 divisions. When I played kids' leagues in the 80s, there were two divisions (Myton and Drypool) for each age group.
A lad called Neil Sanderson lived on Endyke in the 60s. His uncle played for D...QPR. Mike Barry lived on Langtoft off Endike. He went on to play for Huddersfield Town, then for Bristol Rovers then for various in the US. Might still live in the states.
