With qualifying going on at the moment, I was wondering if Anyone has got any local sides they have/going to see this season? Fa cup nights at my local club Woking are always special.

My local team Dulwich Hamlet got done at Hemel Hempstead in the last round. My brother-in-law used to play for Crawley Town in the Southern League in the late 60s/early 70s, there were some great FA Cup matches at their old Town Mead ground in those days...

i think most the people there had all of a sudden become Farnborough fans again. i went to the game before that at Darlington but not so glamorous. loved watch lower league football it really didn't matter if you one or lost.

Yeah, they haven't got a ground at the moment so are ground sharing with various teams, including Woking. They get an average attendance of like 60

Queens, you just jogged some great memories for me with that one! Used to go to Harrow Borough with my school mates back in early 80's - was great cos we could just jump the wall and get in for free midweek cos the security was non-existant!

I went to Harrow Borough for an FA cup game in the 80s against a league team (I think it was Newport County) with a former Borough player and fellow Rs supporter called Peter Lavers. He was very warmly welcomed in the bar - and rightly so, he scored 99 goals in 100 games for them!

Last time I went to a non League FA cup game was my then local pub side, The Brook House, Hayes play Stevenage in an early qualifying round in about '95 i think. Good crowd and remember Efe Sodje playing for Stevenage in his bandana. It was a draw if a remember correctly

As a young lad, in the late 50's early 60's I would watch Andover Town FC (Hampshire) play at this ground, the Walled Meadow, with my Dad, who always bought me a bag of crisps, a Mars bar and a cherry pop at half-time to keep me occupied while he chatted with his mates.

Biggest event was beating Hendon Town 4-3 in the FA Cup, but next round they lost 1-0 to Gillingham at home in a very close match.

I see the club folded a couple of years ago, but has now re-formed.

Their fans are apparently called the "Barmy Army", which could also apply to us lot - new pitch just laid:-

AAhhh the Brook House...stright from the BMX track to the ground and then to the pub, just in time to watch the fight !!

    Good old days.

My mate took over the "dust" (Industry) a few years ago after many years in the Firefly !!

Small world mate. I use to live at that BMX track as a lad :).
'The Firefly was legendary as the roughest boozer in the area if I remember rightly...sadly no longer with us, like so many pubs around there.

Same as me mate, I spent many weekends at that track. Knew a few of the guys who were quite good too.
One of them owned (or his dad did) the car showrooms at the end of the parade of shops just past the Brook House.
As for the firefly, that was wild to say the least and a Chelsea stronghold. I ventured in a few times but only under "armed gaurd" and never stayed to long !!

For me local big FA games to remember was Colchester v Ringmer and a great run to the last 16 for Hailsham v Hungerford in the vase ... Really got the bug for footie after that and six years later Played at a youth level in the FA youth cup against the mighty Arsenal ... We were dispatched by a shed full

Long live the FA cup I also remember didn't Sutton have a great run

I have mates in Hereford and they still talk of Ronnie Radford and Ricky George was it?

    Stroller,

I remember seeing Peter Lavers score quite a few goals for Chesham United.

I think it was the season we signed a number of Harrow players, others being (?) Micky Scott, Mick Mccaffrey & Butch Wakefield. Maybe some others as well.

Unfortuneately, we didn't do as well that season but it was one of the most entertaining that I have seen.

The best match in the qualifying rounds that I've seen (no bias attached!) was winning at Leatherhead in the 4th qualifying round in 66-67 to reach the first round proper for the first time. What happened next at Enfield has been erased from my memory in the same way as a certain sunday in 1986!

Peter Lavers also played in the Leatherhead side that got to the 4th round of the cup in 1975. He's quite a character and always had plenty to say for himself. I introduced him to a friend once and after about an hour he took me aside and said 'Blimey - and they called the other fella the Leatherhead Lip!'
