We're probably getting to the stage where we're going to bulk out the core of the team with a few loanees. Obviously going down the route of maxing out on 5 loanees every year has done us so well... ... but one or two I'm sure could add value. So... who do people (realistically) fancy getting on loan for the season?
Chris said last season that he would only bring in loans who had the possibility of being starters NOT just benchwarmers so they would have to be quite good. Perrett did well for us last season and said at the season end that he would like to come back on a season's loan Jesus, there are a lot of "season" in that last paragraph.
Yeah, he was probably the pick of last year's lot... Stewart showed promise (not technically a loan)... Fry was average, as was Bessone, though could argue Fry is a better CB choice than what we have now. Martin didn't deliver on his potential (except at Peterborough), Ecclestone realistically will never come back... and let's just pretend Nouble never happened... <shudder>!!
Well it is the 'season' season. As in 'last season' and 'this season'. So Seasons Greetings to you for the season ahead. As for loans: not until Christmas, please. Let us start with a squad of fully paid up Charlton players and see what they can achieve.
There's some very well seasoned posts on this thread... I'm with you, PE - let's start with our own before we look at bringing in reinforcements.
Valley Redemption, your last post was spot on mate although I wasn't too convinced with Stewart last season myself, seemed to think he was too good for us but played like an average League One player. I wouldn't mind seeing Parrett come back but to be honest, I'd rather we didn't 'hope' for any loan signings, and only bring them in for emergencies, I.e injuries.
Fry would've made a quality CB imo. He did a sterling job when you consider he was playing out of position at LB for the bulk of his stay. His natural position is at CB and considering how utterly shambolic we were in that particular department It's an absolute mystery to me why the kid weren't given a crack at playing in his chosen position for us... After all he couldn't have been any worse than the cack we had playing there!!!
Give it a rest Mike...!! When are you going to accept that the Big Spaniard is no more. Who will you stalk when the new season starts...?
I for one am very thankful for CP getting rid of the dead wood, with big mig being a big ol' oak tree!
He`s gone sadly yes...but I`m fasinated that you can rate old man useless Dailly what did he do last season apart from get sent off or skinned..or bring the ballout from the back and do nothing with it...and he turned down a contract...how the hell was he offered one.
I agree that by his high standards Dailly had an indifferent season... However, class is permanent, form is temporary Mike... I firmly beleive he brings more to the table than any of the other CB's at the club. Not just in terms of experience but I reckon he's a far better player also. If we find the right partner for him at CB I'm certain he can rediscover the form that won him our POTY the season before last. I would however prefer at least two new CB's to play ahead of him. I feel an investment in young blood is what's required at CB. If I were gaffer I'd be pulling out all the stops (providing he's not looking for crazy money) to retain him as a squad player. Having said all that I don't think he'll hang around and swallow being a bit part player... After all, i'm sure he'll want to make the most out of what little time he has left as a pro footballer...
Dailly won poty the seasom before last cos lots of Millwall fans voted for him online due to his dreadful performance v them. I agree he was decent that season but his legs have gone and he`s just past it simple as that as for how much time he has left as a pro footballer i`d guess at...NONE.
