Yeovil are having a bit of a moan that Stephen Athurworrey's loan cost them £90k in wages (plus medical expenses) for only 17 games. "As if a drop in performance - which Sturrock publicly bemoaned - was not enough, the 20-year-old was then struck down with a knee injury less than three months and 17 games into his stay at Huish Park. Arthurworrey returned to Craven Cottage for treatment and the problem was sufficiently serious that it was decided he would not return to the West Country. Unfortunately that was only where the problems started for Yeovil. Not only did they lose one of their first choice centre-backs, but because of the contract between the two clubs the youngster had to be paid for the rest of the campaign. Eagle-eyed fans may have noticed that Arthurworrey was listed as a player on the match-day programme for the rest of the term. This was not down to lazy publishing, but because technically he was still registered. Chairman John Fry estimated that the defender - who has since been released by the Cottagers - cost the club £90,000 in wages, as well as the medical fees that the Glovers were obliged to pay as part of the deal." Firstly, our oft maligned administrators appear to have been extremely astute when drawing up the loan contract, which may augur well (financially) with others (like Stek and Mitrog). Secondly, to put in a marker on how much we pay our own lot. Stephen, basically an U21 player who was going to struggle to make a step up, was (apparently) on £1800 per week.
I must say that of our great academy side of 3 or 4 seasons ago Arthurworrey was the least impressive
