That was Alfie Mawson's last game of his loan spell for us against the Shrews. I recall turning up to Newport on the first game of the season thinking "who the hell is this kid he has thrown in" but the lad has become a firm favourite and proved his worth of a place. Rumours have it that many clubs are now sniffing around him and maybe Brentford see his loan future better spent in League 1, which you could understand. The chairman made a statement about loanee news coming shortly when in the Vere suite on Boxing Day so we can only hope.
Bad news. He was class and fitted in well. We will be lucky to get an adequate replacement but Gaz found him and knew when he was going (unless he was banking on an extension). Hopefully he can find another gem.
