Hello and welcome to the second edition of Loan Watch for the 2012/2013 season. This is a feature in which I will keep you up to date with the players Brendan Rodgers has sent out on loan and inform you of their performances so far. At the moment, Liverpool have four players who have been temporarily sent away from Anfield to clubs in England & further afield. They are: Andy Carroll: West Ham United. Jay Spearing: Bolton Wanderers. Henoc Mukendi: Northampton Town. Villyan Bijev: IK Start. Andy Carroll- West Ham United. please log in to view this image Andy Carroll left Liverpool to join West Ham United on the 30th of August 2012. This was a season-long loan and means the striker will spend the 2012/2013 season playing at the Boleyn Ground. Carroll has made two appearances so far in the claret & blue of West Ham United. He made his debut for West Ham in a 3-0 victory over Fulham. The England striker was impressive on his debut and played a significant part in two of West Ham’s goals. However, he was taken off with a hamstring injury in the 68th minute. This was a poorly-timed injury (Most of them are of course...) but it interrupted his good start for the Hammers. The big man came back from the hamstring injury in West Ham’s 2-1 victory at Loftus Road against Queens Park Rangers. He came on for Carlton Cole in the 72nd minute and helped West Ham close out the game and get their first away win of the season. He then started and completed the full 90 minutes as West Ham were comprehensively beaten at home by Arsenal. It was a 3-1 victory for Arsenal and commended West Ham to their first home league defeat of the season. Carroll did cause the Arsenal defence problems but West Ham wasted some of the chances that they created and Arsenal punished them. Appearances: 3. (One appearance off the bench) Goals: 0 Assists: 0. Jay Spearing- Bolton Wanderers. please log in to view this image Jay Spearing left Liverpool to join Bolton Wanderers on the 31st of August 2012. As with the Andy Carroll deal, this was a season long-loan and means Jay will spend the entire 2012/2013 season at the Reebok. The midfielder made his debut for Bolton in a 3-1 defeat against Hull City. It wasn’t the result both Jay & Bolton were looking for but by all accounts, Jay had a good debut and the Bolton fans appreciated his hard work. Since his debut against Hull, Jay has been involved in every single Bolton game that he could have. This is six more appearances in the Championship & means that Jay has made 7 appearances for Bolton. The results haven’t been the best for Bolton with just 7 points coming from Bolton’s last 7 games. Add this to the 4 points Bolton gained in their first three fixtures and they have just 11 points from 10 games. This has left Bolton sitting 18th in the league and it has now cost the manager, Owen Coyle, his job. Coyle was sacked yesterday (9th of October 2012) and that leaves Bolton without a manager. Academy manager Jimmy Phillips & the head of academy coaching & development Sammy Lee (Ex-Liverpool player, coach & assistant manager) have taken joint temporary charge of the club. All in all, Jay has done reasonably well at Bolton thus far. He’s put in some good performances in the heart of Bolton’s midfield but results haven’t been what everyone associated with Bolton would have hoped and it leaves them looking for a new manager. Will be interesting to see what role Jay will have under the new manager. Appearances: 7. Goals: 0. Assists: 0. Henoc Mukendi- Northampton Town. please log in to view this image Young Liverpool forward Henoc Mukendi joined Northampton Town on loan until January 1st 2013 on the 8th of August 2012. The versatile forward has been in & out of the Northampton side thus far and hasn’t been able to get a consistent run in the first-team. So far, Henoc has made nine appearances for Northampton Town. He made his debut in the first round of the Capital One Cup/League Cup. He came on in the 56th minute and helped Northampton defend a 2-1 lead over last season’s runners up, Cardiff City, and dump them out at the first stage of this season’s Capital One Cup. Most of his appearances (Seven) have been in the latter stages of games coming off the bench. This hasn’t really given Henoc the chance to show his ability to the Northampton manager, Aidy Boothroyd, and the fans. However, he started his second game of his loan spell last night in a JPT (Johnstone’s Paint Trophy) game against League One side Colchester United. He massively impressed last night and grabbed his first goal in senior football. This gave Northampton Town the lead after being 1-0 down and they were able to hold out to product a cup shock. (As Liverpool fans, we all know about Northampton Town and cup shocks...) He also bagged the man of the match award! An excellent night’s work for Mukendi and this could give him an extended run in the side. Appearances: 9. (Seven appearances off the bench) Goals: 1. Assists: 0. Villyan Bijev- IK Start. please log in to view this image Liverpool striker Villyan Bijev joined Norwegian second division side IK Start on the 27th of August 2012 for a season. Bijev hasn’t been afforded too many minutes since he joined on loan. Only 11! He made his debut on the 27th of September 2012 coming off the subs bench. As I have previously mentioned, he only got 11 minutes but after speaking to the IK Start website, he seemed happy with his debut. All in all, it’s good to see Bijev get his first minutes for IK Start. After making his debut, he’ll be pushing to get more minutes through substitute appearances & starts. With IK Start battling to get promoted back into the Norwegian first division, he’ll be hoping he can play a significant part! Appearances: 1. Goals: 0. Assists: 0. - Thanks for reading! If you have any comments about the players, the thread itself & features that can be used in this thread in the future, please do comment and I will try and incorporate them into future versions of Loan Watch.
great work.... its amazing but not suprising that not one really decent player has gone on loan to be accelerated. rodgers seems to be blooding all he can himself.
