More money is wasted in January when teams panic to stay up & the sellers know it , so they ask silly money . Also , the manager who buys in January may not be around at the start of the next season & new managers seldom like recent buys by the old one for some strange reason .
I'm struggling with all this really. On the one hand we're doing okay in the Premier League with basically the same team that got us here. Vorm is overall a better keeper than deVries but we sort of got him by default rather than design. If deVries had stayed, he would still be our starting keeper. Danny Graham is ok but no better than Borini, so the only improvement made to date is in the keeper position. Routledge, Lita, Moore, Moras all seem to be back-up players rather than pencilled-in starters. Finding players better than what we have already got seems to be a problem. On the other hand Rodgers, Dai and others are saying that we need 4-6 players to come in January. Dai would like them all to go straight into the starting XI which means splashing out maybe £40 million to get quality players better than those we currently have. Rodgers hasn't said who would be back-up and who would be starting. Arteta and Mertesacker went straight into the Arsenal team and that seems to be the quality level required. Most people, I sense, wouldn't want to risk spending such large sums on a gamble. What to do? No idea!
The only outcome we can control now , for the end of the season , is how much money we have left . I guess it's a bit different for me , I don't care as much about staying up as I do about retaining money
Thing is, Breezy, if we stay up we get lots more of that lovely money - about £40 million so it's worth our lads getting stuck in to earn it.
If we stay up , go nuts with the money for next season in the summer & we still have money saved . If we spend now & don't stay up , were left with parachute payments & probably big wages in the Championship . I'm sure Buck & the board will get it ironed out before the New Year , I hate spending big though Cheers !
to bloody right it is or what is the point of being here in the first place......we must do everything possible to give us the best chance of achieving our goal, I dont give a fig if its loan or buy as long as they got more strength than what we have got already. If we have to sell a high profile player then so be it.....sell sinclair he has not performed apart from penalties this season, unless of course if he was to play a more central roll where i personally think he will play better and might get some goals.......apart from that sell him...
I am not convinced any of the players will necessarily be better players costing the earth - just players to give us depth in squad...
I could see buying big & lots if we were in last place or something but were not . Although I'm not sure , I think we might lead the league in clean sheets within the confines of arguably the toughest fixture start of all teams . We need a couple of quality defenders on the wings , past that , everything else would be a want . I'd rather gamble on a few loans in January & if we stay up , let the transfers fly in the summer , spend big . If we don't stay up , were financially stable to come back up or at the very least , enshrine our position in the Championship .
Yes it is perplexing, I'm not for bringing in 6 players, not sure what Rodgers is up to with that one, think the backbone of our team is solid, I do think though we need two or three players, I think we need quality up front, a Ferrie Bodde replacement is my top priority, and a quality CB would do me, if you start bringing in too many players, you'll end up losing the shape of your team, I suspect that Situ is one of these players................... please log in to view this image
situ is one, brendan said that himself last week,we desperatly need an attacking midfielder who can also take a free kick around the edge of the box(gomez?),and a full back or 2.
he wants as many as 6 players as its obvious that the ones we have got are not good or premiership standard. and he is right, we are a small team in stature and are being muscled off the ball. just passing the ball between the midfield and defence is no good as you are bound to lose the ball and its lucky we have a reasonable good defence and a good keeper that is keeping us in the game....
Brendan is saying now " Quality over Quantity " in the January window .. sounds a bit like it's not " 4 to 6 players anymore 99
We are the joint lowest scorers in the league along with West Brom & Wigan, 12 goals in 13 games. Blackburn have scored 17, but only 6 at home. We have`nt scored in 7 of those games, that`s half our games. I don`t think the problem is the striker, it`s the service, as has already been said. We need to change our style of play to accommodate the changing face of the game in hand. The slow build up is all very well, but when it`s in our own half, it presents no danger to the opposition. We need to be more adventurous now & again, even if only to wrong foot the opposition. An attacking midfielder or two, in the mould of Bodde would be the best bet. Unless Brendan changes the way Sinclair is playing, I would tend to agree with Dai. Let`s see what Brendan comes up with, and then the manager in all of us can give our opinions.
We've been a loss away from disaster for years now , it's almost comical . Were a couple of players short of keeping our spot in the Premier .... period!!
we seem to be the only 2 with change the style of play swainseye, in all honesty who really has to change their style?
we are more than a couple of players short, we are about 9 players short if the truth be known. we won't get 9 of course but a minimum of 4 or we are in trouble......hurry up back tatey the team needs you ...
