Taken From nufcblog.com, Llambias' response to Keegan's Q&A session on Radio Newcastle...
This is a good point, and something raised by myself, along with many other fans at the time...Keegan is a legend, he did amazing things for this club and they will not be forgotten. But the fact is, he knew, that when taking money from the club, he was damaging the club, and who was to suffer as a result? Us, the fans!
We know that Ashley lied to him, we know he was treated disrespectfully and since the whole incident has occurred it appears to me that Keegan was simply a figurehead/mascot for the fans, rather than a true manager of the club. I can understand him walking away, but ã26m? Howay man!
This bit isn't that surprising, but does give a little more insight into the club's thought process behind the Carroll sale. I don't think it's a case of Newcastle pushing her out, more a strategic move on our part. Liverpool were desperate for a striker and time was running out...It's the reason christmas decorations cost so much in December but are in the sales come January 1st! Simple supply and demand!
It seems calculating and ruthless, but at the end of the day, it's the direction football is heading and I suppose we, as fans, can do nout but accept it...

ââ¬ÅHow can Kevin Keegan talk about having any concern for this clubââ¬â¢s finances when he took action against Newcastle United that could have finished us? ââ¬Â ââ¬ÅHe was claiming close to ã26M from Newcastle when he took his dispute over his departure to a tribunal.ââ¬Â
ââ¬ÅIn the end he was awarded the minimum amount ââ¬â just ã2M, but if he had been awarded what he was claiming, the club would not be here today. His remarks are astonishing.ââ¬Â

The very reason we got as much as ã35M for Andy Carroll is because we concluded the deal on deadline day. Liverpool wanted him but we wanted our price and they had to pay it.ââ¬Â
ââ¬ÅAs for his comment about not selling James Milner before replacing him, the club had signed Fabricio Coloccini, Danny Guthrie and Jonas Gutierrez in the weeks before he was sold.
