Johnson hopes to sign five new players before transfer deadline Lee Johnson claims he needs to sign five players ahead of next Thursday’s transfer deadline to recreate or better last season’s play-off challenge in the Sky Bet Championship following a 3-1 home loss to Leeds. https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/johnson-hopes-sign-five-new-players-transfer-deadline
A midfielder, central defender, strker, right back and a n other, why, oh why do we always leave it so late?
If, as he claims, he is waiting to bring in up to another 5 players this late is season then I would question his competence. Remember the 3 window promise from so long ago? He has to do way better if we have any intention of being a contender this season and, after a rare start out of the gate with loads of action, we now need more substantive returns from our transfer dealings.
Didn’t he say he needed 5 to take us to the next level? We’ve only bought this season one for the future, two back ups on frees, a keeper and the three players who were here last season. Also like Loathsneyd says with Webster’s money this means we are able to play in the bigger pond of transfers. Also Nketiah is now strongly rumoured to be all done, just waiting on Emery to sign it off. The fee is a high one so won’t that make some doomsayers happy if it don’t work
He’s not wrong looking at yesterday. If Leeds are the standard setters this season, then we are a long way away. A striker, RB and CM are highest priority, Hunt, Pack and Fammy need replacing.
City need to spend - as Sky show Before the match, Sky Sports showed a graphic of all of City's major player sales since the start of the 2018-19 season. It shows the finances raked in by the club and included the following: Adam Webster - £20m Lloyd Kelly - £13m Bobby Reid - £10m Aden Flint - £7m Joe Bryan - £6m Hordur Magnusson - £2.2m Mo Eisa - £1.3m Lee Johnson has promised more sales and loans this week and an estimated net spend of -£33.2m could yet be further enhanced.
Who do we think is being sold then? I’m a bit worried that all this upheaval now the season has started will unsettle the squad and all the work done pre-season.
I hope we've not gone down the Southampton route, selling ya best players but not making sure they are replaced with alike.....
Yeah saw that as well. Seem to have missed the players we have bought in the same period. Kalas 8m Palmer 3m Dasilva 2m Bentley 2m Webster 3.6m Weimann 2m Hunt 1.5m Eisa 1.0m Watkins 1.0m and that's not counting loan fees
Unfortunately it comes with a ckubs standing wizered. We're no different. Until the teams above us sort their business, our deals dont filter down. So long as you have the core of your squad in place, I'm not overly worried about later signings, you introduce them over a few weeks once they've trained with the club for a bit. I know everyone wants to get off to a flier, but it's a long season.
We were done from start to finish by a fantastic team who played the beautiful game perfectly. Johnson and his team got a lot off hard work ahead of them. Shocking yesterday.
My imput to this thread is not a critique of our club it's just contributory thoughts as to our current situation with just 4 days of the transfer window left.
Tell Lee to pop down to the transfer miracle shop and get 3 players who can take us somewhere. The 3 players mentioned by supcon have to go because yesterday they were shocking and COD looked like he wants to be elsewhere. Essentially the squad has been severely mauled by our outgoings and we need to see positivity and creativity in our new signings (if there`s still time left) otherwise I can see nothing other than a season of discontent.
