Lee Johnson has issued a stark warning to his Bristol City squad after another Championship loss By a_stockhausen Lee Johnson issued a thinly-veiled warning to his players in the aftermath of defeat at Birmingham City on Saturday. Bristol City's head coach had good reason to be pleased with an improved team performance, but he still feels certain individuals have more to give. Speaking after a bitter 1-0 defeat at St Andrews, Johnson said: "There are still a couple that have to come to the party." Although he followed up by promising to work hard on the training ground in order to improve those players currently at his disposal, the message is clear. Those who don't shape up will either be moved on or drop down the pecking order. And City's ambitious young head coach is not afraid to seek better alternatives once the transfer window reopens in January. In an earlier interview, he told the Post: "Obviously you keep your cards close to your chest, but we've always know what we want in January."We need to improve and we need to improve everywhere. What I have seen of the team so far this season has confirmed what I already know. "If we are going to go and win the league outright at some time in the future, certain areas of our squad need to be stronger."Of course, we are always working hard to try and improve individuals but, sometimes, you need something better than what you've got." City produced arguably their best performance in several weeks at Birmingham and, with the team handily placed in mid-table with 24 points from 17 games, there is clearly no need to panic. But Johnson is not one to stand still and rather than give opportunities to players who continue to frustrate, he will seek to strengthen his squad in the transfer market at the same time as fast-tracking talented young products from the club's Under-23 and Academy set-ups. Decent performances are all very well, but the head coach acknowledges the need for results and admits he would happily settle for a poor display and three points at Reading this weekend.A further seven Championship fixtures must be negotiated before the transfer window reopens and City can strengthen and Johnson will continue to work hard to improve the squad as it is. Speaking after the Birmingham game, he admitted: "I have to say we were the better side on the day, but it means nothing. The score-line means everything. There was a definite improvement in our performance, but we need to start picking up points sooner rather than later." http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/lee-jo...ionship-loss/story-29921558-detail/story.html
I see Lee is on the warpath again but I genuinely hate to keep reading about his woes in the press all of the time, here is yet another one about seeking advice when things look bleak ~ http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/johnso...bristol-city/story-29921628-detail/story.html I do love his cliches, there is a special one here about a snakes belly..
We need a right back and a centre forward Would love to test Forest's resolve with a bid for Assombolonga
What are these misdemeanours ? http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/footbal...-loanee-dropped-for-misdemeanours_285814.html
Oh dear me I think I've heard all this nonsense before and if you ask me the wheels are very wobbly right now and epithets from the dressing room don't help.
Tomlin, Magnusson, Moore, and Paterson (with slight reservations) have all been excellent signings, as has Abraham (12 goals before December is phenomenal for a child star). Whilst acknowledging the work put in by Ashton, LJ is due some credit for this, and there is room in this list of players for others to step up to the plate. I feel that even though we have lost a few matches (who would have thought it !) I feel confident in LJ and a steady progression at the club. Under Cotts we would have been back in the lower reaches by now
