I asked the question on another thread "Greyson sacked", him being a decent manager and all that. I'd like to take it a step further!! Right now......is there any coach/manager that's available or maybe one that you feel would be tempted (Jose & co not included) within reason, that you would swap for our current manager/coach? Of course I realise for some of you, just a couple of defeats and the execution tools will be oiled and waiting!! It's not really an "I told you so question". Just to find out the happiness of our fans at the minute.. Would be good if the answers wasn't just about how much money was spent....You know who you are!!
Very very happy with Johnson and Co in charge. We have a young management team who are far from perfect but they are all desperate to succeed. Our training methods are a few steps in front of other teams. It’s interesting to read what they do, eventually all the other teams will follow suit once it’s proven to be successful. I won’t lie I wanted LJ out last season. I never thought he had lost the changing room. Just that his way of managing wasn’t coming across to the players. A few months on and we were all wrong. He’s proving his doubters wrong and has been the clubs most successful championship manager since his dad! I honestly can’t see him ever leaving us unless it’s for a top prem job, and the only way that would ever come along is if we’re holding our own in the prem. So no, wouldn’t swap him for anyone else. A perfect fit for the club at present and well done to Lansdown for standing by his man. It was definitely a gamble but it’s paid off! A top 10 looks pretty much nailed on at the moment! Anything else is a bonus!
Happy when we got him , happy when we stuck with him. The best manager/owner combination in the 40 years Ive been supporting the club
Wasn’t happy with his appointment and wanted him gone after the home defeat to Cardiff last season. Back on the fence towards the end of last season and firmly in the ‘Johnson In’ camp for now. None of that should be controversial or a surprise; when we are doing badly I want change and when we are doing well I want stability - like most I would assume. If we go on a long losing streak again then I will call for change again. Not because I hate (or love) Lee Johnson but because I want what’s best for Bristol City. There is never anything personal in it as far as I am concerned. Fickle if you like - but unapologetic.
there are those that already have axes oiled wrapped in rags, cans of reduced in the sales paint with dodgy paintbrush's and have been raiding the local rag bins for sheets! ... no doubt! the biggest shock was LJ being appointed, however like yourself and maybe a couple of others ( cant recall there being more than a handful?) I didn't slag him off, call for his head hoped he resign but listened to the vibes coming out of the gate, he was pretty much here to stay and SL was at last sticking to his guns and not being knee jerked. And although we say" it is not a told you so" it is very hard to find another phrase! how well is he doing this year? well we are in the top 6 and have only lost 2, but drawn 6, I would rather that was 4 and we won one and lost another! We have at the moment a pretty good average side in a pretty average championship. to be better we need to be able to add together games lost and drawn and the total has positive daylight to games won. I think our undoing at the moment is up front, we have 4 average strikers, OK Reid who I like is in top few of championship scorers, but average, but we lack a real killer instinct striker....Fam and Milan may get there, Taylor is "a strange one" and tother is in Scandiavia. since a dozen made a prophecy on the seasons end I can at the moment see no reason to change my position on where City will finish, but do hope for an outside chance on 6th, and a visit to WEMBGLEE!
Well a long losing streak other than 6 or more games is really dependant who you play, injuries etc.. it is possible to lose 7 win 7 and draw 7 ..but what if the 7 losses and 7 draws were all mixed in! that would look bad but wdl ldw dwl etc would be acceptable? you need to have a target right now I would say 65 points end of season would be good, if we los 5 on the trot 1-0 then won 5 on trot that falls in with quite a few saying I wouldn't mind if we wl wl wl wl etc except it is 5 in block not alternate, after 23 games I would look at the points and say to myself OK should we get 75% % of that number I will be happy even if we lost 5 on the trot!
Bobby Reid is joint top scorer in championship with Bonotini. Reid has a shots on target accuracy of 60% compared to Bonotini who has 55% He’s playing in a this role for the first time this season and you say he’s average? Back to the original question. I wanted LJ out after the Cardiff and Reading fiasco’s. But once SL decided to back him I climbed back on the fence. One reason I feel things changed when JP went and we stopped changing things around to fit Tomlin into the squad. Like Onefor I just could not see who was out there to replace him at the time and felt whoever it would of been the gamble was higher.
Fans fans fans let’s be honest none of us expected the start we have had. On last years stats LJ should have BEN long long gone. On current form he is fully endorsed by the majority of us,long may it continue.
I'm not ignoring the thread, you all know I have no regard for Jnr at all, I support Bristol City to the hilt, the team are doing brilliant and I don't want to offend all of you guys that have gone sweet on him, so I wish the team all of the luck, Saturday and beyond..
I said on April 23rd in reply to a post "Missing", that I will give LJ a dozen games in the new season, if he fails he should be on his way, somehow I think he will surprise us............ I think he has.
Not wanting to go over things again, but what will change your opinion of Jnr then Wiz? Like many, I wasn't happy when he initially came on board, purely because of his inexperience. I was happy when he/the team saved us from relegation first time around. I wasn't happy that he/the team went on a record losing run. I would have been happy to see him go. I was happy when he/the team saved us from relegation the second time around. I am happy that he/the team are now performing well and are in a good position as it stands. He said from the outset that 3 transfer windows were needed to get a squad that he would be happy with. That appears to have happened. SL seems to have been content with what Jnr was looking toward, so extended his contract when many wanted him out. From the way things are working out, Jnr seems to have removed "bad apples" from the squad and backroom staff that may have been causing friction. Everybody now seems to be singing from the same songsheet and all appears to be sweetness and light!! Has Jnr simply been learning on the job, or has he simply been lucky?? I have to say that I think he has been on a massive learning curve and is actually coming out the other side as a decent manager. Therefore, I am happy to sick with him. As always of course, only time will tell!!
My own thoughts are that the appointment of Jamie Mac as AM has proved to be emphatic in our turnaround in form, also the moving on of Lee Tomilin has also proved to be good business, he was both an enigma and a problem, it took LJ quite a while to drop him last year during our bad run as he was such a fans favourite, I, myself was having an argument with a mate during one game saying his selfishness was very apparent and I think LJ should take him off.. he then proceeded to dribble past 4 players and smash it in top bins. he destroyed me there and then, I still believe though it was the correct decision to move him on. As for LJ, he seems to have learnt from some very obvious mistakes last season and fair play to him. nothing really to criticise him for this season.
Reliant Robin TC2, I have given my opinion and reasons so often I honestly have now decided on silence on the subject, I assure you I wish the team all of the success with him and I'll leave it there, I will of course retain my right of critism for the future, I'm not waiting for his demise and I want the team to continue fighting for future success. The fact I don't go down the gate anymore is my only regret.
Never surprised me, always knew we had a good'un the moment he walked through the door, will outdo what AD achieved.
Must admit, responses I expected by most of you and thank you for your honesty..(apart from RR who changes with the wind (only joking RR!!)). I don't know why, but I have backed LJ throughout, even after the bad run.......The only time I questioned it was before the deadline last January when if we were looking to change, that would have been the time, so as the new manager could have had a stab at the transfer market.. I think LJ's conducted himself admirably, as player and manager. I also felt that all the time he's been managing, his passion and his style of the game he wanted was not far away...... mainly narrow defeats costing us dearly..I also felt at the time & now that there aren't many managers out there that are going to give us much better than we have.. I think we have a level headed young decent manager at our club right now and it's good to see things coming together for us..How far will he take us?? Is a good question, which I don't have the answer, but it's a nice journey to be part of......Long may it continue. I know many will be on his back again with a few defeats but I think with the backing of the fans we will finish in the top 10 or even better, which in my eyes is progress!! NB. For those that felt Cotts should have stayed......really??!!
Compared to other managers we have had at BS3 LJ is one of the better ones. We had a succession of managers who took us DOWN FFS. At least we are still in the Championship and doing rather well too. Some people say ‘well he has had loads of money and technology to help him.....’ well so what? I don’t care as long as we are doing well. I DO care if we are NOT doing well. Like I said - I’m fickle.
That's a very bold claim, obviously I hope you are right & wish I had your optimism. I could understand your view if you were a youngster who'd not been through many 'false dawns' previously. I'm curious to know why you are so confident Lee will be more successful than AD , that's one hell of a claim , we have an awful long way to go to even get close.
The bizarre thing is, we are only 6 months and two better results than two teams above us to bettering AD. Even if we stay in the pack and go via play offs LJ would of then got us to the top flight in less time than AD. So really it’s not a long way to go. Do I think it will be this season? No I think the rise of the bigger clubs throughout the season will push us further down the league.
