http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19474423 Eidur Gudjohnsen and Florent Sinama-Pongolle are among those available on a free transfer, though precocious and hungry youngsters, such as Samed Yesil and Adam Morgan, are more likely to be given a chance to prove their worth, at least until January when the club will think again. Samed Yesil The German striker was signed for £1m last week and there are some at Anfield who believe he can make an immediate impact. The 18-year-old, who has represented his country at under-16, 17 and 18 level, scored 23 goals in 20 games for Bayer Leverkusen's Under-19 side last season and has the found the net 19 times in 20 appearances for his country, including six goals for Germany at the Under-17 World Cup last year. May struggle to adapt to the physical demands of senior football but his appetite and attitude cannot be questioned. "I get stuck in where it hurts because I want to score goals. It doesn't matter if I get kicked or fouled. The important thing is I score," Yesil said recently. Dani Pacheco The Spaniard was just hours from joining Real Valladolid on loan last Friday but has remained at Anfield and is desperate for a chance. Did little to convince Rodgers in pre-season and has still to fulfil the vast promise he had as a 15-year-old when he graduated from Barcelona's famed La Masia school. He has, however, been an ever-present in Spain's all conquering youth teams, featuring for the under-21s last season. An outside bet at best. Adam Morgan The 18-year-old is perhaps the youngster furthest up the pecking order at Anfield, having impressed Rodgers with his willingness to learn and tireless work-rate during pre-season. Was given his first competitive start against Hearts at Anfield last week and will be given more chances to impress. The local boy has been at Anfield since the age of 10, when he scored 80 goals in one season for the Liverpool Under-10s and went on to score in 13 successive matches for Liverpool's Reserves and Academy sides in 2010/11, scoring 21 goals in the season. "Every time I've watched him, whether it's live or on TV, he's always in and around the area where it matters, and that's the 18-yard box to score goals. As a striker, that's a great trait to have, and he looks great if he's got it," former Liverpool defender Gary Gillespie said. Free agents Alessandro Del Piero The Italian, who is expected to clarify his future at a press conference in Turin on Wednesday, is perhaps the most celebrated freebie of the lot. Now aged 37, the former Juventus forward is expected to join Sydney FC in a deal worth £1.3m per season. Could offer Liverpool something different and has never been a player reliant on his pace. Florent Sinama-Pongolle Brought to Anfield as one of the world's most talented young teenagers, Sinama-Pongolle failed to live up to that billing during an inconsistent spell at Anfield. Now 27, the Frenchman has been released by Sporting Lisbon and is a free agent, having spent time with Recreativo and Atlético Madrid since leaving Anfield in 2006. Would fit into Rodgers's 4-3-3 system but questions remain over his fitness record.
One of the reasons why we failed to score many goals last season was because there was a lack of players in the box. Morgan is definately someone who will be around that 6 yard box and putting pressure on the keeper and defenders. His movement and intelligence in the box is pretty good and he's very quick as well. I would love to see him get a chance. Yesil seems special as well, technical, two footed, hungry and determined (just like Morgan) - will have to see how he does in the u21 team before I can make a judgement. I don't see Pacheco as the main striker. I think he is more suited to playing behind the main man or as the inside forward. I think his intelligence and technique could be very useful and I would love to see him finally get a chance. Problem is, a few managers don't seem to give him a chance so maybe there is a question over his attitude.
I'd like Morgan to be given a go. Del Piero would sell a lot of shirts but is that a good enough reason to sign him?
Rodgers has some thing on the official site today saying he feels the players need to be more patient in the final third. With more patience the attacers can work better chances and the players behind can get into position, which will make us less of a danger to counter attacks. I think Suarez can definitely lack patience and shoot to quickly, with out taking time to line up the chance. Downing to, with this also applying to his crossing. I also said last season we rushed things to much in the final third and lacked composure. Look how patient Barca are in attack!
Barca are not patient in attack - they simply run out of options. This is exacerbated when Villa isn't playing because he can play both the true and the faux striker roles thereby creating time and space. We do not have that luxury! As they are both young then why not try Morgan and Yesil (one from off the bench)?
I agree, we need to rest Sterling at times so could switch to.... Suarez Morgan Borini or more experienced Gerrard Morgan Suarez Yesil of course would then be an option off the bench.
. Yes, everyone was worried about the idea that passing it back to front and back again would mostly feature passing to our defenders but I hope that once BR has got them doing it properly with patience it will be more a constant probing from forwards to midfield & back, drawing the opposition out, I believe all our players in the first choice 11 have the technical ability to do this but do they have the the mental strength? It can certainly test a players resolve if they have been probing without success for ten minutes to continue probing for ten minutes more. With us at the minute this is usually the stage where Suarez will try an impossible run or Gerrard will attempt to ping a diagonal cross field pass. I'm not criticising either player for attempting these it's when & why they are that I criticise. It should be because they've identified an opening not because they've lost patience that they haven't identified/created an opening. Same goes with all our attacking players. If the pass isn't perfect to create the opening for the shot; don't shoot anyway. If you got past one defender brilliantly with a run but are blocked by two more; it's not a failure to pass back and start again. It's a slow agonising build up of pressure on the opposition BR wants, suffocate them into making a mistake. I believe that's what BR wants and I honestly think he needs to hammer that into our more "iconic" players. If even to say you two aren't always the ones expected to provide a miracle, do the simple well & trust your teammates!
What I hated in the Europa league, was playing Morgan wide right and Suarez in the middle. I like Rodgers a lot, but sticking to Suarez down the middle is like Kenny playing Adam, Henderson and Downing every match. I felt bad for Morgan, he should be played down the middle.
Didn't see much of the reserves but he always looked a awkward big lump, strong yes but I get the feeling if A Carroll wasn't first choice this Kid certainly won't be. Maybe I didn't see enough games though....
Do you mind if I call this bollox? The Spanish league never pressures a player on the ball. Everyone gets all the space they need over there. This is why it looks so good, it's the equivalent to a pre-season testimonial match over here. So the midfield simply don't have the time to stroke it about, and since they are outnumbered, they usually have to do something with it, or pass it back to defence, which means the ball is back in our half, and of no use at all to our strikers, who have no reason to "get into position" This is a fast paced league, and if you cant fashion a quick move, the defence will always have it covered. You have to use speed and skill to unlock the defence, and since Suarez and Borini just stand there doing nothing, if they don't have the ball, it is unfair to blame the midfield for it all falling apart as they are getting charged down, with fook all movement in front of them to pick out.
Call it what you want and I'll call it an honour. A lot of the time when Downing and Suarez get one on one with the keeper or get a good sight of goal they shoot to early when they have time to take another touch and position themselves better.
I fully expect us to do nothing at all up to january and even then i am skeptical we'll really solve this issue. the press rumours are a joke frankly. none are capable. IMO the next thing to occur is suarez to be targetted by some ref with two quick yellows and off you go.... I think borini needs to get i nthe middle and play there and try to show he can hold it up.... rodgers is missing the whole point of suarez which is not to play in a forlan role but to play wide right forward and be amazing there... don't get rodgers now... think its all starting to come apart.
Wouldn't hurt to at least try Borini in the middle... we paid decent money for him as a striker and he hasn't repaid faith on the right. If this is him being played out of position as many suggest, I would like to see how he does in a more natural position.
Are you suggesting the Board have erred in appointing Rodgers? Are you saying Rodgers is NOT the man for the job?
Does it make any difference? He's what we've got to we've got to stick with him. The players have got to take what's good from him and just ignore the rest! That's life
Too early to tell if Rodgers is the right man. 7 games isn't significant. How we are after a season (or where we are likely to be at that time) counts more. I'm neither convinced nor discouraged yet by Rodgers.
Somewhat naive to say the players can pick and choose what they listen to - as the manager gets to select them (or not!). I was asking the question of Rodgers, as MITO sounded mighty negative about the gaffer...
