I've lost alot of respect for Liverpool over the past couple of seasons, for a few reasons. I thought how they treated Hodgson was terrible, he never really got a chance. Yes he struggled but he had inherited a poor squad and only had a few million to spend to replace Alonso & Mascerano and then add to an already underacheiving side. I also do not think it helped that 'King' Kenny was forever in his shadow!! The fans turned on him so quickly, something you do not really expect from Liverpool supporters. Then yesterday you hear that alot of Liverpool fans are dissapointed that Dalglish has got the sack. Whilst yes he won their first trophy in 6 years it is after all the Carling cup. He spent over £100 million on very average players and their league form was not befiting of a team like Liverpool. Liverpool and especially Dalglish also handled the whole Suarez situation terribly!! For me whilst there are more deserving people of the sack, it's hardly an outrage and you struggle to see what he would do next season with less money to spend. Then to top this all off, from some quarters they want Benitez back, the manager who really took Liverpool backwards in the first place. Through his incesant chasing of Barry when he already had probably the 2 best DM in the world at the club, his negative tactics and again some average signings. This is a great time for Liverpool to appoint a fresh young manager without the cloud of Dalglish hanging over them. I apologise that my last threads have not been anything to do with Ipswich there's not alot of non-stories out there atm and would be interested on your thoughts?
Makes me laugh when i heard the head of the supporters club on TV this morning and he was saying that the fans wanted a 5 year plan like they had in the old days, **** me they wanted Woy out within 5 ****ing games!
a fan was interviewed on tv yesterday outside anfield and was quoted as saying "the problem with king kenny is that he was a great manager, but you should never really go back. i think him coming home was a mistake'. 'so who would you like to see come in to replace kenny?' asked the interviewer; "rafa benitez would be my choice" FFS sums their club and their fans up to be honest!
The Suarez situation made him look like a complete fool. I'm all for managers backing their players but quite honestly he was wrong and set a dreadful example. As for Liverpool fans, they didn't rate Hodgson simply because he wasn't Dalglish and like you said the money he spent (that Hodgson didn't have available) has achieved absolutely nothing. I think this is a massive moment for Liverpool as I think they are a million miles off the Manchester clubs and far too far off the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and even Newcastle so Champions League football is looking a very ambitious target, the fact that they went from Alonso & Mascherano to Spearing & Shelvey tells it's own story and quite honestly as a squad they are not good enough. With a strong decision regarding their new manager they could build themselves up again althoughknowing Liverpool they will make another strange decision and an even stranger decision as to the timing of sacking that manager, personally the likes of Martinez and (Dare i say it) Lambert would be what I would consider good moves, although in reality Liverpool are not that tempting a proposition as it has been proven to be somewhat of a poisoned chalice
As far as i'm concerned i don't give a flying **** about Liverpool, too many problems much closer to home, still some don't seem to see it!!
Glad for you're intelligent and mature input asper boys. You don't give a **** what's happening but you give as enough to post on here!! I'm sorry from now on I shall focus on more serious things closer to home like this weeks caption competition.
Ptc I'm not sure what you expect us to say! If you want to discuss whats happening at Liverpool then join the debate on their board. We have enough problems at Ipswich Town to discuss like how do we get rid of Clegg and this clueless manager! Then again I know which side of the fence you would come down on.
I expect you to either join in the conversation if you want to and add to the discussion like everyone else has or not to say anything at all!! Not come out with stupid, needless comments, mind you I geuss after being on these sites a few years it's expected, still winds me up though!!
you've found plenty of time to have discussions with us about our manager though, haven't you... anyway, ptc, i thought it was an interesting article. liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world but are on its knees - its worth talking about, but agree with king of portman that he's had it coming and they probably need a young, up and coming manager who could build a dynasty there rather than attempt a quick fix. i suspect they'll go for a big name european manager though
Thanks Supers. It's not often that there is a topic that is really debated on here without petty insults or ridiculous comments, it was nice for a small amount of time to have a discussion on football. One question though, do you think Liverpool would have the balls to go for Lambert??
had dalglish moved up stairs rather than severe all ties, i think they'd have gone for him, based on dalglish's appraisal of lambert who he rates extremely highly. i think he'd be perfect for liverpool to be honest, absolutely perfect. however, i have almost no fear of them going for him at this stage - more concerned about villa but i still think that's unlikely. there have been a number of murmurings today from various sources suggesting lambert doesn't want the villa post but we'll wait and see. he's not even favourite anymore - solksjaer is
For me I think you know how highly i rate Lambert but I also think that he is very ambitious and not very loyal (Colchester comes to mind). I think he would happily leave Norwich but only if the right Club came along. Clubs like Villa and West Brom could be tempting but it's borderline. It would be some what ironic if he went to Villa, the game after Norwich quite comfortably beat them causing them to sack their manager. A big club like Liverpool would definitely tempt him but I'm not sure any of the big clubs now have the audacity to go for so called lesser name managers, they all want the big names.
i think he is misjudged on the loyalty front. people will of course highlight what happened with colchester but would you want to stay and manage there in that soulless piece of concrete? he left because the gap between them and norwich, despite league position, was garganchuan in terms of infrastructure. the gap between norwich and west brom is minimal, villa are much bigger potentially but completely skint with a trigger happy owner, while liverpool is the club who really should go for lambert but won't because a) their fans won't accept him cos he's not a 'big name' and b) their owners probably don't even know who he is. villa are a danger but if there's one thing lambert is, its clever. as much potential as villa have, it would be an enormous risk to go there at this time. as i said on another thread, villa are probably the right club but the wrong time. oh, and if there's one man he listen's to, it's martin o'neill. lets just say he isn't a villa fan... my money is firmly on lambert still being norwich manager come august. and if not, i wish him all the best in the world. he owes my club absolutely nothing
It would be so refreshing for a bigger club to go for a so called lesser manager, mind you I geuss Liverpool sort of did when they went for Hodgson and look how quickly the fans got on his back. As we have discovered at Ipswich having a big name buys you more time!! It was still a bit of a gamble going to Norwich though, your finances weren't in great shape and potentially you looked like you could well go down the leagues pretty sharpish. I don't think Lambert is loyal in the sense that say Roberto Martinez is though. He's just knows I think where he is more likely to do better.
i agree ptc. it would be refreshing. i think the bigger clubs need to start trying to look down the league at the better performing managers, but not just that, let them have some time to build something special. there are some really, really good managers out there!
