Just seen the game may not go ahead as Liverpool have reported more positive COVID cases. I'm meant to be going to this match, so I hope it's not postponed...
I think they just need to crack on tbh Play the reserves or a youth side. The season is never gonna end at this rate with games being postponed every week
I know it’s a different competition but Villa were made to field a squad of U23s against them in the FA cup last season. Liverpool should be made to do the same if worst comes to worst
Liverpool have applied for the fixture to be postponed. Reports suggesting they're likely to have their request granted. Annoying.
Apparently Arsenal have contacted EFL comms to push for a forfeit against Liverpool for pulling out as they believe that they have enough players available to field a squad.
Someone on the BBC summed it up nicely! "Seth: If the EFL wants to be taken serious and seen as fair, they should make Liverpool to forfeit their match just like they did to Leyton Orient last season when they had to forfeit due to the same coronavirus that Liverpool are citing."
Yep - it's been postponed. First leg will at Anfield on the 13th January. Second leg will be at The Emirates on the 20th January.
Absolute bollocks!! It's a comp that already shouldnt have been a 2 legged Semi! All it does in congest our future fixture list. Should have been a forfeit or play U19s! It it were Arsenal, I'd have been fine with that.
Can't see Arsenal winning this now. The cleverly orchestrated postponement is a game-changer. Realistically Arsenal won't have enough in the tank to go all out for this AND the NLD - it has to be one or the other.
I think it was going to be difficult irrespective of the postponement, orchestrated or not. Liverpool have a superior XI and squad depth than us (as the Nottingham Forest result proved), so I think it was always an uphill battle from the off. A draw would be a superb result if we can get it, but I think it's unlikely. I expect a 3-1 loss.
Yeah I'm not feeling that confident about tonight. Had it been last week when we had Partey and Xhaka in MF and coming off the back of that Man City game I think we could have got a result. But we are defo weakened in the middle atm and I think Liverpool will have too much for us. Would be nice to get to another final, but I'd rather we took 3 points on Sunday against the Spuds over this fixture.
No Tomiyasu either. It’s just going to be damage limitation at this point. We just have to hope the scoreline is low.
I'm not actually that bothered about this game. I mean, I'll watch it and hope we win. But much as I don't want to see us lose any game, I think Arteta should just rest our senior players for Sunday The league is more important than the carabou cup.
I agree the league is more important, but I do also want to see us win a trophy. Whatever you want to say about the League Cup, we haven’t won it since 1993 (almost 30 years ago) and we’re in a semi-final. I hate seeing us lose and it’d be annoying to get knocked out having progressed this far.
Oh my god, look at that Liverpool team compared to ours. 3-0 loss (minimum) incoming. Klopp wants to wrap this tie up in the 1st leg so that the 2nd leg is a formality.
